anyone havin a videgrapher AND photographer?

mrs-roth-to-be, 5 March, 2012 at 22:07 Posted on Planning 0 14

Heya!!!

Whats everyone doing? Just having one? or both videographer and photographer? We booked our photographer last august if not earlier and have got an amazing deal with an amazing videographer. I must admit I do feel bad taking another persons quote and asking him if he would match it, but he said he would with 1 or 2 minor exceptions that are compeltely fine with us so an extra saving of £140 woop woop!!!!!!

We're having both, spending more on the TOG than the VOG though. I just think you can't listen back to the ceremony/speeches with just pictures, so we just want a simple DVD so we can relive those special moments ?

The cringe factor puts me off a VOG too, so decided against it initially,

Then a close friend who will be attending offered to do a DVD for us. My OH thinks it might be nice to have the "special moments" ( ceremony, speeches, cake cutting, 1st dance etc ) on film even if it is just for ourselves. Our friend is very good at doing it, he has made DVDs of the kids at christmas etc to send to my parents in Scotland.

Admittedly I do think if it was just for us privately it might be nice to have as a keepsake, BUT... for a few reasons I'm still not keen-

    1. I'm doubt if I could relax knowing I was being filmed

    2. what if other people want a copy of it , how do I refuse??

    3. I'd like our friend to enjoy being a guest without having a "job" to worry about

I'd appreciate any opinions please !

I am having a TOG and a VOG and ended up spending more on the VOG, but the TOG is a family friend so gave us a deal. And the VOG explained that the reason she charges so much is because she spends about 40 hours editing the footage, which I thought was fair enough. I'm quite sentimental about having things on video, I like watching the videos of myself as a child.

Mrs 2b_MrsB, I know that VOGs try to be really discrete so that you do feel relaxed, and to be honest I think I'll just be so wrapped up in getting married that I won't be worrying about it. I would say that if someone close like your parents wanted a copy it would be difficult to refuse, but I can't imagine that non family members would want a copy. Since your friend volunteered to film it for you, I would take that to mean that he is happy to do it, so I would perhaps just buy him a nice thank you gift.

I wasn't really keen on having a VOG but H2B liked the idea. I did reconsider once it was confirmed my grandmother and some of my friends couldn't make it. We didn't want to spend a ton of money on it as we're spending quite a bit on the TOG - the photos are one of my biggest priorities and I wanted them to be great - and we don't feel like a wedding video can totally capture the day. Luckily H2B's sister is a film editor so we're hiring a camera for 100 quid and then she'll edit the footage. Hopefully we'll get some good footage and if it isn't great, at least we won't have spend loads.

We've gone for both - we've spent twice as much on the tog as the vog, and that's on a disc only package, so no albums! I had originally booked our vog as our tog, but then our financial situation changed and we decided we could afford to go for a 'better' tog (and in this case that meant more expensive although I'm sure that's not always the case). Anyway, to avoid losing our hefty deposit we asked the original tog if we could switch to a videography package and he agreed! Tbh I'm not in love with his videography, but he will also provide all of the raw footage as well as a fully edited DVD, so on balance it seems to me a better option than just losing the 400 deposit we had paid him originally to secure him as our photographer.

We are having both. From the beginning Ive definitely wanted both! We are spending more on the TOG that the VOG.

One of the VOGs is going to OHs house while he gets ready and the other to me, so looking forward to seeing all the preperations there.

For me personally it was a must for both! :-)

I'd like a videographer, but all the ones I would consider a professional quality are just so expensive, and since we can't afford it I'd rather have nothing than some awful amateur effort, that'll just be embarrasing to watch.

That is where I have the issue, I know professional VOG try to be discrete, but whilst our friend is really good at the footage and editing bit, he's not a professional so the being discrete part is what concerns me !?

We are having both; originally only planned to have a TOG, but OHs nana has kindly offered to pay for the VOG for us - glad we are doing it now, will be lovely to have a dvd to show our children in years to come!
