Anyone having a wedding video?

jojo2, 15 February, 2011 at 14:19 Posted on Planning 0 18

We initially decided against this as it would probably be watched once and collect dust thereafter, but I am now worried that our day will whizz by so fast and it would be nice to sit back and capture those precious moments of our marriage and the celebrations afterwards. We have booked a steel band for the drinks reception which I probably won't even see or get to hear as will be off having photo's taken whilst the guests have a good old dance so am considering whether I can justify the extra $400 or live to regret it.

Anyone else having one??

We're having a video for the same reasons, I was worried that I will miss so much of the day that we decided it was worth spending a little extra money. I hope I will watch it more than once, hopefully once a year as a fab reminder of our day and for me to see the things a bride dosn't get to see like your guests arriving at the church and h2b waiting for you to arrive.. I admit it's easy to see it gathering dust especially if you don't like bits of it, but we felt that you spend money so much money on other stuff that won't last longer than the day we wanted to spend some on hopefully a good reminder that will last for much longer. x

I'm not having one because I can't imagine anything worse than watching myself on TV. I've seen myself on video once before and it was awful! The photos will do fine - although I'm not really looking forward to them either!

Were having one. I think its a great way to see things you will miss - ie guests entering church. It will also remind you of the sentimental moments ie speeches, cake cutting, first dance.

I originally wasnt that bothered but my mum&OH talked me round - I hate the sound of my own voice anytime Ive heard it back on video - but I'll get over it lol

My cousins wedding video was just edited wrong - it showed the MOB sitting in the church, shots of guests etc and then showed MOB walking up aisle being shown to her seat. i'd have asked him to sort it but my cousin couldnt be bothered.

We're having one, but it's being done by a friend of ours who offered to do it for free (though we'll buy him some beer as a thank you anyway!), otherwise we probably wouldn't have had one. He's not done a wedding before, but has put together some short films, one of which was shown at Oxford University, so he must be alright I figure!

Initally we were going to have one to show my Mum, who wouldn't have been able to come to the wedding, but she unfortunately died last year. I still like the idea of having one though, as even though I hate looking at myself on film, I want to see all the bits I missed on the day and have a lovely memento of it all.

Yes, will have someone film it, even if just a relative. I'm not keen on seeing myself on camera either, but its such a cherished item for kids & grandkids in years to come.

Two people from my work's "media team" with proper broadcast quality hi-def cameras are coming along to video the day, they'll then give us a pile of discs with hours of footage on it, which I will then edit down into convenient little sections that are Youtube-able as well, and then offer copies to all that came plus those that couldn't make it to our day.

We aren't expecting a huge up-take of DVDs so I'll probably just duplicate them at home as necessary - but we do have a number of overseas friends that can't make it so they'll appreciate seeing them on Youtube, or I can put the AVI files on a disc and send them so they can watch them on their PC.

We went with Richard from Your Perfect Day - he has filmed at our venue and church before so knows all the best locations... 12 hours coverage and 4 discs for £750 (winter deal)

Also looked at Premier Wedding Films - £495 for all day coverage and one disc - but didn't think the sound quality was very good and that is the whole point of having it filmed!!!

We're having ours filmed, mainly for my grandparents who live abroad and cannot travel. My uncle is a teacher and is going to borrow some equipment from the media studies dept. I'm not fussed about him not being a professional, as long as the ceremony is clear and audible, because it's the closest my grandparents will get to being there.

He'll be filming for the rest of the day too... but for that, I want hilarity! I want drunk shots, people falling over, etc!

We decided to get one purely because a family memeber is going to do all the photography for us so we had a little spare cash and thought - what the hell!!!

They'll be 2 cameras used all day, up until our first dance finishes. They will give us 5 copies of the editied DVD, which will be divided into chapters and have a 'Best Bits' chapter at the end. This company are charging £650.

Based in Bath if anyone would like me to pass on their details!

I'm not a fan of 3hr wedding video marathons. I do love the really edited trailers versions though, if I could afford these guys I'd hire them in a heartbeat

Bare in mind that's a same day edit, shown in the evening on the wedding day...

We are having the same people who did our friend's wedding - they send 2 people 1 to brides and 1 to grooms house before the wedding and take videos of them both getting ready - I love this part as I wouldn't get to see what OH got up to b4 the wedding!! They also do a 'drop in' where they ask people to come and leave a message on the video for the Bride and Groom - that is hilarious watching back as most people are slightly merry by then haha! I want to have all the special moments captured on DVD for my to watch back, the day will fly and this will be a chance to savour those moments, can show to children when they are older also which will be lovely - don't really look forward to seeing myself on video though I have to say!

We weren't going to have one, TBH until I came on here I never even knew people had their weddings filmed ?

Our church has restrictions that only one Videographer can film in the church so we have hired one guy literally to record OHs entrance, our guests arriving, my entrance, the couples shots and then arrival at our venue - I don't want a camera in my face all night and to have to watch what I say.

We had it because OH goes away a lot - last time he was away he watched a slideshow of photos of us everynight before he slept, and he has said he'd love to watch some of our wedding video each night - bless him.

We are doing a video due to the fact my OH condition will mean he will forget as time goes on so the photos and Video are really important to us we have booked these guys and they were really friendly when we booked them and understood where we were coming from.

A wedding video is like a documentary film of one special event in a couple’s life. Even after many years of building their own family with their own children and grand children, they can all gather in the family room during the couple’s wedding anniversary and watch the exact events that took place in their wedding day. This is almost comparable to a classic old film that is shown in a theater and is watched by many because they know of the film’s quality.

I was so anti video... it was a last minute thing. I thought that if I hated it at least I gave it a try.

It was the best £250 I had ever spent. So much better than the photos. If I had my day again I would go all out and pay for the full day/night package. We just got the arrivals and the ceremony.

You will see things you would never notice and will fail to remember. I think I noticed the camera once.

I tell all brides to be that it should be a must....

I watch it all the time and will cherish it forever.

Don't let people put you off. Its not tackey at all
