Anyone having an unusual wedding?

Laura_Photographer, 14 March, 2011 at 18:21 Posted on Planning 0 13

By that I mean non-traditional and having your own very personal twist to it? I'm searching for the different and wonderful weddings out there happening this year! Anyone?

    Hey,

I've only recently got engaged and haven't really decided about much (still not sure which country we'll actually get married in!), but I imagine it won't be your average wedding. For a start I'm English and he's Italian and we have friends from all over the world, so it's going to be an international affair. Italians like to play a lot of jokes at weddings and also to get the bride and groom to saw a log of wood at the reception. I don't have an engagement ring and neither of us are bothered about wearing a wedding ring so we thought we might make silly rings for each other and give them on the day. I don't really like wedding dresses so I'm not sure what I'll end up in! He doesn't like formal wear so will not wear a tie or anything like that, although a suit will probably happen. He suggested we have a jelly wedding cake, which sounds fun and I think we're going to have to have some kind of subtitling system for the different languages people speak.

I quite fancy asking our international friends their traditions and incorporating some of them in the reception too. We'll have to see what happens really ?

We were thinking of a dress-up, but have gone more traditional. OH's brother got married abroad & for their blessing in UK, it was a surprise medieval banquet for all the guests.

We made tabards out of felt with a coats of arms sprayed on the front for everyeone to wear. Those close to the wedding party had actual costumes. Bride wore her wedding dress with a crown & the groom was King Arthur. Wenches serving the food, lute players, knights, a jester & I was maid Marianne. They had a full pig on a roast too. It was fantastic & I would have liked to have done that as our actual wedding.

Depends how unusual you want really, and I'm getting married next year, not this year ☹️

I'd be willing to do something crazy if you were offering free TOG services though LOL

Dunno if ours counts as unusual really. We have a subtle sci-fi theme, silver origami lilies in place of real flowers, a 6ft TARDIS cutout for guests to have daft photos with, you get the idea. Likewise, we already have a TOG though.

I wouldn't say mine is unusual but it's pretty low key if that's what you're looking for? We're getting married at the registry office and then going back to the parish hall in the village I grew up in for a vintage inspired tea party. Not sure about the evening quite yet as I've only been planning it since last week(!) but I'm looking for a folk band but might just have a little disco. There's a garden so going to have some picnic blankets out for people to chill on...!

    Hi everyone!

you can probably guess by my username that mine wont be totally normal Smiley smile

We are having a Victorian wedding. My dress is Like a victorian style opera dress, with a bustle, (Black) and I have a mini top hat with veil. OH is wearing a steampunk style victorian tailcoat, and victorian pocket watch and waistcoat.

Travelling there is a Landau coach with black horses...

other than that - quite normal, small registry office wedding with not many guests.

I love reading about other weddings! It takes my mind of panicking! LOL xx

Mine is a bit of a mix as there a lot of traditional things like a country hotel, wedding dress (although all red down the back hehe) and suits. But we are having few extras in the theme fire and ice and now hopefully getting a local choir to sing as we come in and go out of the ceremony room Smiley laugh (super excited about this) My decorators are having a field day as my mother told them "We want EVERYTHING" although I have had to control it slightly as there was mention of dry ice, mirror balls, ivy, tons of glitter lol I think it will be interesting to see what they come up with hehe

I love everyone elses unusual ideas as it reflects the total diversity of everyone!

@Gothic_Bride2011 I LOVE your wedding plan and it is making me jealous lol Smiley smile

    We're having non-traditional twists.

My 7 year old son will be giving me away, my dress is black, and we're having a handfasting ceremony during our reception.

We're having "vows" that join our 2 families, as we've both got kids with a previous partner, and our baby will have been born by then, so we thought it would be nice to have them all involved.

We've just had to change our wedding to next year though.

Our wedding is non-traditional in that I'm wearing a green dress and there are lots of traditions that we're not following. Don't know if I'd call it unusual, its just very us!
