Anyone having 'inappropriate' music during their ceremony?

cford09, 24 April, 2012 at 17:27 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hello beautiful people!

Just wondering what kind of music you are having during your ceremony? I'm not 100% sure but as far as I'm aware, I need 3 key pieces which will be the brides entrance, the signing of the register and the exit music.

I quite fancied having songs that meant something to me and OH and have come up with:

  • Heart Vacancy by The Wanted for my entrance (one of my fave songs)
  • Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles for the signing of the register (a song we both love)

And now for the inappropriate one...

  • Cheers (originally by Rihanna but an acoustic version performed by Walk Off the Earth) for our exit

This song means a lot to both of us as we both love Walk Off The Earth and wanted it to be like a 'YEY we are married let's go and celebrate!' kind of song.

Give me your honest opinions, is this the most distasteful thing ever? Even if it is we may have to have it anyway!

Are you having anything that's not the 'norm' for any of your songs? ?

A friend of mine had Bruno Mars - Marry You when they walked back down the aisle. They almost ran/skipped down too. Not usual, but very funny and very them. ?

My OH keeps trying to insist I walk up the aisle to the Imperial March ?

A band I really like have done a cover of Rihanna's We Found Love and i'd like to use the music version to walk down the aisle because we both like it and it is beautiful.

For signing I'm not sure, probably just a song we like, decide nearer the time

For exit I wanted Marry You. I love that and think it would be perfect for a bit of fun Smiley smile

Choose whatever you want, it's your day! Smiley smile The Cheers cover is amazing though!!

I quite fancy 'Video Games' by Lana Del Rey, but it sounds a bit depressing but has a nice sentiment to it! hehe

Love this post. Its nice to see music a bit different. Me and OH are considering having Mardi Bum for one of the signing the register songs! Very inappropriate but its one of 'our songs!!'

We're leaving the church to Bruno Mars' Marry You. Even though it's basically a p*ss take of vegas marriages and suggests marriage is something lighthearted and 'easy come easy go', clearly this is not the attitude OH and I have and we love the irony of it. We have okayed it with the vicar, who fortunately is pretty chilled about such things!

It's such a fabulously upbeat song, I can't wait to hear that intro and know this is IT, we're finally married!

Which version is this? Me and OH both really love that song but never thought of having it as we only know the dancey version.

Yeah definitely! Have what you want! We arent' having anything tradtional, at the moment we're thinking of having a peice of music wrtten by H2B for walking down the aisle, we're having Dream Theater and maybe Jet/White Lies/Elbow for the registar signing and we're walking back down the aisle to Queen. First dance is Metallica. It's all about you and your H2B so if the songs means something to you then go for it! Smiley smile

It doesn't matter what you have as it's your wedding! I really enjoy performing at weddings where the couple have really thought about what music they like for the ceremony. Off the top of my head, I remember playing I am the Walrus by The Beatles, and November Rain by Guns and Roses and they both went down really well!!

If in doubt about a particular song just ask the musician(s) you are using on the day and ask their advice if it will work for their line up. Most of the time you will be fine, but some tunes might not sound like you want them to on certain instruments

For my entry some ive cut the song Teenage Dream (sang by the Warblers in Glee so not as dancy, ive cut out the line 'the way you turn me on' as its not what i want my grand parents hearing) and for our exit song ive cut Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You (all about breaking up with eachother but the chorus is great! So we are having this payed a few times).

    Some great song choices here!

I'm walking into Flight of the Conchords 'Most Beautiful Girl... in the room'. My OH and I love FOTC and I hope this song will make my OH smile.

For the signing of the register we are debating having the song from the latest muppet film 'Life's a Happy Song' (written by one of the members of FOTC)

For leaving my Bridesmaids all play in brass band so they are going to arrange the Indiana Jones theme tune for a trio - it should be interesting to hear how they do it!

Llike others have said have what YOU both want. We're having a medley of film music for guests waiting. Yellow card for entrance, Sum41 for signing and Weezer for exit. We're not having first dance but if we were it would probably be Greenday, Offspring, Blink182 something along those lines! ?

I am coming in with the Kinks 'you really got me' but its Ray Davis with Crouch end festival choir - its amazing! And then we are having Bill Withers' Lean on Me, Fun Lovin' Criminals' We have all the time in the world, and Kina Grannis' cover of Use Somebody.

We are leaving to the throne room/closing credits music from New Hope, fading (hopefully) into Cantina band

Not entirely traditional, not as offbeat as I would have gone left to my own devices, but very 'us' as a couple.
