Anyone know about alterations?

Kitty1987, 25 October, 2010 at 21:24 Posted on Planning 0 3

I have an appointment to have my dress altered next week but they will not even give me a rough idea of a price until the day. Just wondering if anyone had any idea of how much it is likely to cost to have my bust taken in about 2 inches? that's all that needs doing.

This is the dress

I'd imagine its going to be a case of 'how LONG it takes to take bust in' with all the pleating etc its not going to be a case of ''£30 for the lot but more like £12 an hour.....''.

I'm pulling figures out of the air here but my mums a costumier/dressmaker and I know she would charge a fee thats reflective of the hourly rate.

Just ask whether it's an hourly rate or a fixed price. If an hourly rate then, when they see the dress, get them to give you a fixed price. Here's a couple of websites to give you an idea of what can be charged, but remember it could be very different in your area. You will have a local dressmaker somewhere if you look around.

I read so many reviews about wedding dress alterations before I actually decided to go with The Alterations Boutique shop in London. I had to travel a bit from Surrey but in the end it was worth it. Our family designer wedding dress has never looked better, it's like it was made for me. The only problem now is to stay in the same shape until May ??
