Anyone know about DIY? Shelf brackets (v v v dull)

Librarian Girl, 30 September, 2008 at 14:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I'm trying to locate some shelf brackets, I saw them in a magazine but they were just in the background of someone's living room. Basically how they work is it's a long piece of metal in a U shape with short legs, so it screws to the wall above, bends out at 90 degrees and goes across the top of the shelf, wraps round the end, back under the shelf, 90 degree bend and then screws into the wall above. Sort of like a floating shelf only a bit stronger and you can see the attachments, but not a standard L-shaped bracket.

I tried to do a pic but the formatting won't let me! Just wondering if anyone's seen or got anything like this - I've searched fruitlessly on homebase, wickes, screwfix etc websites but don't know if they've got a proper name to search for. ? for any ideas!

Sorry, I've now got a sore head trying to picture what you mean ... I'm ending up with some sort of weird bended shelf sculpture which I'm sure isn't what you mean at all ?

Have you got a link to the magazine?

Woops, sorry! ? Having scouted round a bit further I've found these from Ikea, but the ones I saw didn't have to be at the end of the shelf, i.e. they didn't wrap round the end as well - we'd be trying to cover about 2.5m of wall so will need to put supports at quite a few places along.

Maybe the photo was actually these ones, and they just had two ends next to each other so it looked wider... In which case I apologise higely for giving you a headache!

Aaaaah ok, I get what you mean now - we actually have that shelf in our bathroom ?

Have you got an ikea near you? I think I've seen them displayed up against eachother, but they also do quite long shelves for those brackets ?
