Anyone know about weddings at Methodist churches? Question

sherry, 25 April, 2009 at 20:02 Posted on Planning 0 3

I am just reading through what we have to say (I get married in 2 weeks eeeeekkk)

I know that I am B and my H2B is A

There is a section which says...

Who presents B to be married to A?

Response: (............................) I do. (This will be my dad who is giving me away)

Who presents A to be married to B?

Response: (............................) I do.

Who responds to the second bit? Is it the best man?

?

How strange, I don't think I've come across this before - but I'm sure it must be the Best Man....if I find anything on google I'll let you know!x

    Hi there

I am a lifelong Methodist as are all my family and we got married in the Methodist church where we attend. However, the Methodist marriage service does have some oddities like this one!!! It's a modern service (compared to the one used in most CofE churches for example) and things like this have been added to make it more PC I believe!

For this reason, plus a few other little bits that we weren't so keen on we ended up using the traditional CofE marriage service - the one that starts 'Dearly beloved, we are gathered here.....' etc etc.

I wanted our guests to recognise the traditional bits from the marriage service (in fact I wanted to recognise them too!) and since my husband is a practising Anglican and his brother is a CofE vicar we had no problem changing for the more traditional service for the vows etc although we used the Methodist service prayers as I preferred them. So it was all a bit of mix and match for us!!!

Sorry just re-read my post and realised I've rambled on for about a page and didn't even attempt to answer your actual question! Sorry had a few wines tonight so apologies for my rambling!

I think that bit is there so that the groom's parents can effectively 'give him away' too.
