Anyone know about Wii updates for Xmas 08?

Jacksmum, 25 June, 2008 at 09:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

I know it's very early to be planning, but I'm thinking of buying a Wii as a family present this Christmas. I'm currently doing my research and thinking that it would appeal to all 3 kids and then we could get games for birthdays etc and from other relatives.

Does anyone know if there will be any new models out before Christmas or is the current Wii going to be the one again this year? A friend suggested I buy it early in case there is a shortage again when it gets to Christmas.

If I buy the Wii, how many extra accessories would you recommend? The children will be 14, 10 and 4.

Any recommendations on games they could all play together?

You will need to get 2 extra controllers and 3 nunchucks.

Good games for them to play together would be Mario Party 8 and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics.

rayman raving rabbids is a great game (make sure it's the original and not 2 as that one isn't as good). You also might want a charging stand for the wiimotes (the stands usually come with rechargable batteries)

I agree. Loved the first one and was disappointed in the 2nd.

What others have said - make sure you have a wii-mote and nunchuck for each child, so no fighting. The charging stand is a fab idea - the remotes get through batteries so quickly otherwise. we got one as soon as they came out. They usually hold two remotes, so you will have to rotate them, but that shouldn't be a problem.

    Multiplayer games :

Keep trying for mariokart - it's fab. So, so good.

Super Monkey balls is good. The main game isn't multiplayer, but there are loads of party games, they don't have to be unlocked, so you can play them all straight away, it has a handy feature in that you can set up a tournament of a set number of games, and whoever came last gets to pick the game for the next round - which seems to make it fairer.

mario and Sonic at the olympics is good fun - and much easier to pick up than winter games, which is also good, but takes more practise.

I've not heard of any wii updates. As far as I am aware they are still coming up with new things to do with it as it is, and it is still sellig as fast as ever.

I would think if you buy the Nintendo magazine, that will let you know if there's anything special up and coming for christmas

I don't understand why you would want an extra nunchuck. You get one with the console (don't you, or have I mis-remembered) and you'd only want one with each wiimote.

We have Sports (which you get with it), Play (which we got with an extra wiimote. I think has team games but we haven't played it much), Big Brain (team games available) and Wii Fit (very individual stuff)

I am pretty sure you got one remote and one nunchuck with the wii - otherwise you wouldn't be able to play the boxing game on sports straight form the box
