Anyone made an effort to increase fibre in diet?

I have had reaaalllly bad pains in my side for ages and doc says it is IBS and I need more fibre, and the gave me a prescript. for fybogel. I don't want to take it. I have this thing about these fibrey things that once you start on them your body never manages to get itself working without. Probably totally irrational, but I can't bring myself to drink the stuff. So, am increasing veg intake, starting on fruit which I never usually eat, and have got a reasonably high fibre muesli for breakfast.

Anyone got any tips for tasty fibre increasing thing?

and what's the thing with putting muesli in fridge overnight with milk on, or did I dream that on here?

    My mum swears by bran flakes for breakfast, only she doesn't like milk so puts tea on hers <bokes>

    I have been making a vague attempt to follow a low GI diet for a while and there is a lot of fibre in the things I'm supposed to eat...

    Do you like yoghurt? If so, sprinkle some linseed over it, or put some linseed in your muesli or have a linseed omelette!

    I also made some breakfast bars that contained wholegrain puffed rice, sesame seeds and dried fruit. The recipe is here.

    I also eat wholewheat pasta.

    I set up a Low GI Flickr group that contains quite a few recipes so have a look on there for some inspiration.

    Pulses have loads of fibre in them, I throw some into curries, stews etc.

    Are you drinking enough fluid? If you are upping your fibre you also need to drink enough (2 litres of anything, not just water). The fibre acts like a sponge and absorbs fluid to move though your bowel easier (sorry if TMI). If you eat more fibre and not enough fluid it will have the opposite effect and bung you up.

    Thanks for the tips. I am trying to up my fluid intake, I am making a mental note to each time I go into the reception area to get a drink of some sort.

    I do like yoghurt - what is linseed like? Not so into pulkses and branflakes I am trying to avoid, they are vile (weetabix with tea on is yummy though)

    Linseed is like birdseed! As it's so fine though you don't tend to notice it.

    how bizarre. I eat fruit yoghurts every day, could I just chuck a few in? Am also going to start taking aloe vera gel to see if that helps

    I've been eating healthier since the start of 2009: more fruit, veg & fibre.

    I love jacket potatoes (must eat the skin), apples, oats, kidney beans in chilli, chickpeas in curries, changed to brown bread, wholemeal pasta.

    A Carol Vorderman recipe is: put 5 tbsp oats in a pot, added dried fruit, cover with milk (dairy or soy), leave overnight in the fridge. In the morning add one grated apple and poss a little more milk if needed to loosen. You could easily add some seeds too.

    Wholemeal/wholegrain versions of everything - pasta, bread, rice, the lot.

    Porridge with big rolled oats, not the minced up ones that you do in the microwave.

    H takes the odd sachet of Fybogel without any ill effects - haven't tried it myself yet though.
