are you worried that your family and friends on the day might assume that you will be having one and no one will be up dancing until you get up and have the 1st dance? or will they all be aware of it beforehand?

No no my friends and family know what I am like - romance isn't my thing and the only way I'd do a first dance is if we did one of those funny dances you see on youtube but h2b is not up for that haha!

We are not! We will be dancing together, but we did not want to do the whole bride and groom dance in a circle of people watching thing.

Not really sure on this one. As we're getting married abroad we're having the WB in a restaurant so won't be dancing then. When we get back we'll have a big party and we can't decide if we're going to do a first dance there or not.

We're not. Well, not a proper first dance. We're having a "first mosh" as Mr and Mrs, along with our kids.

The thought of slow dancing, with loads of people watching just makes me cringe.

Hi! So glad to hear, its not just me! Not a favourite situation to be in, for OH and myself.. he is not a dancer, and neither of us like to be centre of attention, so we are just going to start the music too, being centre of attention for the day is inevitable I know!

It's sometimes hard to get the dance floor going when there isn't a first dance. I've had a few of these....but I've developed a little key to unlock it. When I take the request cards round the tables, I talk to the guests and tell them that there won't be a first dance....but I'm relying on them to jump up and come onto the dance floor....even telling them what song I'm going to start with.

So when all guests are in the room, I turn off the background music, go onto the dance floor, do a nice welcome and congratulations to the couple, introduce myself, then declare the dance floor open.....and put on a familiar upbeat song.... and everyone floods onto the floor. They might not stay there, but at least you've got it going.

By pre-empting the situation you get over the awkwardness of people not wanting to be first on the floor, plus you signal the beginning of the party as such. This little method has worked for me everytime so far!
