Anyone 'stamped' their own place settings?

2013_Bride_, 7 February, 2013 at 10:42 Posted on Planning 0 28

I've purchased

- A-Z Stamp Set

- Black Ink

- Cream Luggage Tags

And will be trying to replicate these essentially;

Anyone else done this?

It was a great idea until it arrived last night and I attempted my first one!

I need to master it..... (how long is that going to take, oops!)

I've done this - it does take a few practise goes but you'll be amazed how quickly you'll get used to it. Plus the odd little blemish or wonky letter adds to the charm! I used these for my place settings, table plan, and save the dates. Was actually really fun in the end! Good luck x

It should be easy enough once you give it a few tries. And as someone said, a little wonky makes it look better!

    Thanks Smiley smile

    Do you have any photos?

There will definitely be wonkyness! My stamps keep getting ink round the edges though and that spoils it a bit so need to keep wiping them before I stamp, grr!

Also realised you can only fit so many stamped letters into the 120mm x 60mm luggage tags I purchased so going to have to buy some bigger ones for people who have more letters.

Is that going to look odd? I'm probably worrying about mis-match when no-one else will care, there is only about 4-5 people who need a bigger tag to fit their name on there!

I was gonna do this, but didn't think that A-Z stamps existed! Now I know that they do! Where did you get yours from / how much?

We're putting guests names on wooden chip forks stuck into mini buckets of sand...! I bought a Sharpie at the weekend to write them on, but stamped would look much nicer.

When you are going for that sort of look - mis matched is good! Perhaps you could put some of the smaller names on bigger tags to to mix it up a bit so there aren't only four large ones!

How are you stamping? Pressing the stamp into the ink will mean it gets round the edge. If you lay stamp flat then take the pad to it, you will get less excess round the edge.

Put 'alphabet peg stamps' into ebay, they have lots which are the size probably best to stamp on forks.

    Perfect, Thanks for the tip!

Good point RE Luggage tags, just annoying as I already purchased 150 of the smaller ones Smiley sad

EDIT: Actually, I've now ordered 50 of the larger ones, so I'll keep 50 of the smaller ones, then I'll order some more bigger ones and mix-match with 50 smaller ones again.

It will only be about £2.50 difference anyway.

You'll be able to find a use for them I'm sure, at your wedding or in the future! If not, you could always sell what you have left over.

Have you thought about punching a shape in the corner of the tag? That can look fab?

That was my trial run! Ignore my PJs Smiley smile

The XXX was just me testing stamps not actually doing that.

Always BM - Oooh, might have to look into that. We decided it definitely needed something, I was thinking about those tiny paper flowers and gluing one onto the luggage tag string but might investigate your suggestion too!

I got my stamps from ebay - I asked in a few branches of Hobbeycraft, assuming these were fairly standard requests, but they looked at me like I was from Mars!

Here's an example of my save the date - the other side of the tag then has our name's and the date of the wedding on (sorry, don't have any pics of my table plan or place cards on me at the min).

Couldn't find exactly what I meant - something this, just one in the corner can look good?

Did some more last night. Definitely need to turn a blind eye to them not being perfect (I can't get them perfectly mismatched looking like the original photo either!).

They work best with 4-5 letters only, ha!

Do you think its OK to call people by their shortened names if thats how I address them in day to day life?

I.e. Matthew = Matt if thats what we call him?

Totally, if you call him Matt, why shouldn't it be Matt on his place card!?

    Exactly what I thought.

Getting carried away with thinking others expect everything to be so formal.

Its not our theme so stuff it, their place settings will say whatever we call them!

You put full names on table plans though don't you - including surnames? Or don't you?

Don't worry about it, just call people by their names! I don't know anyone who would be upset at not getting their 'sunday' name, regarless of how formal the wedding is!

On the table plan surnames are usually given, yes. Incase you have people with the same first name. I'd put Matt XXXXX not Matthew XXXXX on the table plan too, don't think you need their full name.

I am going to have a go at something like this...it is air drying clay with alphabet stamps.

    I like it artistically wonky!
