anyone successfully left BT (British Telecom!)

Sparkling, 31 August, 2010 at 08:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

BT are really winding me up. We don't want to use them when we move house for a variety of reasons.

However i have to terminate the current deal with them somehow preferably without paying any charges.

Has anyone managed this?

Thought you meant Baby Talk when I first read that!

No joy with BT the company, if you find the answer I'd be very interested in knowing!

    ? to Baby Talk!

We left BT successfully as a business a few years back. They were trying to make us pay over £2000 in charges for breaking our contract early but we downright refused on the grounds it was a stupid amount of money to pay. They let us go in the end but only because I was very, very, very difficult with them.

As for home stuff I am also getting fed up with them. They have cocked up our bills numerous times and are also putting their charges up now in October for line rental. They have also been taking 2 direct debits from my account even though it should only be one. I'm really peed off with them tbh. My contract isn't up until early 2011 so I shall be sticking with them until then but if you have genuine reason to break your contract early (for instance they have breached their contract with you) then it should be possible. I would read your contract and see if you can spot anything on there.

    Good luck!

I will be leaving BT in February to go with O2, as its a deal we can not refuse. My phone is with them and our broadband. As petall said you can not break your contract with them unless there is a valid reason. I know our bills will be dear for a while but as of Feb 11 they will come down

    We're moving house.

they can't supply a new line within a sensible period of time. 6 week order period i kid you not.

our new contract started before we knew we were moving house - ugh.

they won't let us move our contract period to the new property we have to start again on an 18 month contract which i don't want. I want to get out asap as Sky are providing everything now at the new house because of BT's ineptitude. THrough Sky BT will be there to activate the socket within 72 hours of us moving which is pretty good going.

So i need to terminate with BT some how and if nothing else reduce the costs. I think we'll try for the reasonable test. I'm annoyed the phone contract started about a week before we signed up to the new house. THe broadband is nearly up which is a relief.

The broadband contract is up in october which is a relief. It's just the phone. I'm thinking of a cunning letter to write. In fact I think I'll get Mr S to write it he's much better at these things.

Out of interest do you need a BT phone line in order to activate your Sky or no? I thought that was the only reason I ended up with a BT landline in all honesty. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered getting one at all.

yes you do but Sky organise it for you if you go to them first. however we won't pay BT a penny it's all done through sky or so we are assured.

    Hello

You could argue that they are breaking the contract first by not being able to connect your new line for 6 weeks.

I hate telecoms companies with a passion - they try and screw you any way they can.

    Good luck!

Ooh don't get me started on BT! What a bunch of idiots!!

I moved house so they put it on hold with the view to put it back exactly how it was once I had moved only on hold for a about 10 days. When reactivated they c**ked it up big time and put me on the highest cost internet, tv and phone selections!! That was the first problem. I thought it was all sorted as they could see the mistake. Then they switched systems and had two running consecutively but not all of their staff coud see. Any ways it was all finally sorted then each month my bill was getting bigger and bigger and they were taking 3 direct debits out instead of one which made it harder to track etc.

After 6 months of spending 3 hours on the phone everytime received a bill we decided to leave. Was told no charges as could see all the issues we had had and that final bill would be X amount. come the final bill obviously it was not X amount but several hundred more to cover Cancellation!!

10 months later had Debt collectors despite clearing up the situation with numerous members of Staff. Problem is you can never get the same person twice.

So I say good luck to you as they are a complete nightmare!!! x
