Anyone used a department store 'personal shopper'

Hugo Brambles, 9 May, 2009 at 10:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

I went to Meadowhall last night to pick out a couple of tops for my birthday and couldn't find anything at all - all the clothes either looked too funky or too frumpy. I hate shopping as it means looking in the mirror and it definately takes me out of my comfort zone.....we came home empty handed and I was a bit upset as something that so many people enjoy ends up a bloody nightmare for me.

I was thinking that House of Fraser and Debenhams have personal shoppers. I would only want a few tops - would they be ok with me booking it just for something so seemingly 'normal'??

Anyone used a department store personal shopper before?

I used Debenhams once, it was great. She had me try on things I'd have never looked twice at. Some of them were awful on, but I ended up with an outfit I was really pleased with. There was no pressure either. It way well have been at Meadowhall too. I was looking for something for a wedding, but I can't imagine they'd be bothered if you were looking for tops. I'm sure they're not going to bring you plain white t-shirts!

I haven't used one but used to know the one in Debenhams where I work and she said that she was happy to see anyone who wanted to buy anything! They are not just there for special outfits. In fact the more the are used the better it is as they are obviously then fully utilised

I've used one at my local debenhams a few times and she was amazing. One particular time she got me an outfit that there's no way in a million years I would have chosen. Everyone said I looked amazing in it (even though when I look at it, I still don't love it like another outfit I would have chosen!) Looking back, it suited my shape etc and that's what they are trained to do.

I'd definitely do it again (in fact might book one next weekend) I loved being waited on hand and foot, being made to feel really special.... given tons of coffee to drink and came away both when I've shopped for myself or shopped with others as having had the best experience out of it (and I hate shopping too!)
