Anyone used water storing beads for centrepieces??

darkivy, 29 June, 2010 at 13:45 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi, just wondered if anyone has used these and what their experience was?

I was originally going to fill the vases for our centrepieces with black sparkly beads but after some quick maths realised I would need about 10 billion beads...then I came across water storing beads, which apparently we would only need 8 tiny packets of to fill our vases, much better!

If anyone has used them...

Are they too good to be true?!

Do they look good (they do look nice and shiny on the pics)?

(thick question) How long before the wedding do I need to add water, and do I need to top it up throughout the day? Was just thinking if they only hold water for so many hours I will have to make them up the morning of the wedding...

Ta x

They are fab, and a small pot really does make loads. You'll need to make them up a good 48 hours or so before you want to use them to make sure they're full-sized, and they last for absolutely ages (basically, as long as they're wet, they'll hold water). You certainly won't need to top them up during the day. Full-sized, there a little bit smaller than frog spawn; if you want them to stay circular don't pack too many into your vases, The more you put it, the more gel-like they'll become as they squash together.

Thanks for the replies everyone, very helpful and I am no longer scared of them ballooning up to monstrous proportions lol!

I got mine from Ebay, they were really quite cheap, and the little packs are so tiny, its great, I thought I would have to find room to store a huge mountain of beads or something but these are tiny!

We used them with underwater lights.

The venue did them for us and you need to put the beads in water 24 hours beforehand, or at least that is what the instructions say. We massively overestimated how many we would need and the kitchen in the venue had gel beads bouncing all over the place.

I use them all the time, 8-10 hrs is usually long enough to soak them. If you use distilled water they tend to be a lot bigger pearls. They do go a long way, you can fill an 80cm Lily vase with under 1pk.

I'm using them too, some bright orange ones I got from Ebay. They reflect so much light!

I love the idea of the underwater light, I might get some too now ?
