Anyone want to meet my new puppy?

MrsD, 10 February, 2009 at 09:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 29

This is Dexter. He's a Border Collie and has one blue eye and one brown one. He's just over 8 weeks old and he's gorgeous!

Oh he's beautiful! How are you getting on with the house-training and the pitiful crying at night?! ?

House-training is actually going quite well (touch wood). Only a few accidents and he seems to yelp at the door when he wants to go out so we've made a good start.

Crying at night isn't really a problem, we bring him upstairs in his bed and he sleeps fine. I'm not bothered about him being in the bedroom, just not on the bed but he seems happy enough just knowing we're there. However, we've got a crate for the kitchen for when I go out and he does NOT like that at all ? I'm just working on the premise that he will get used to it..... eventually ?

Sounds like it's going really well. Woody sleeps on the end of our bed/inbetween us/on the floor by the door but I wish we'd had him in our room from the word go because it was pretty hard for the first ... year really! ?

Neither did we till Saturday ?

Come round anytime, I'm practically housebound now anyway - it's like having a baby all over again ?

Aww Dexter is just gorgeous, i've a real soft spot for collies as we had one when we were growing up and they such lovely and intelligent dogs. ?

Here's hoping the housetraining continues to be successful and that he grows to love his crate too.

? How did you manage to get one so quickly?

That would be fab! I was actually going to see if you and the boys fancied going to the farm in Kirkby this week or next so I could come to your house instead. I love dogs.

Just turned up at the kennels on Saturday and there he was. He'd only arrived there that morning and had just been checked by the vets. They gave him his jabs, micro-chipped him, frontlined him and away we went. Spent far too much money in the pet superstore (obviously) and he's completely one of the family now. The boys love him, although he keeps nipping them in excitement so I have to keep my eye on them all and put him in his crate when I go to the loo ?

Its half term next week so we'll be round most of the time apart from Tuesday as J is at the doctor's and orthodontist on the same day. Let me know and I'll have the kettle on!

Oh he is so gorgeous, congratulations!!

I am waiting for an e mail to tell me my puppy has been born, I seriously think I have some insight on how an expectant father must feel, I am all of a tizz and so so excited, but slightly anxious too. I need a cigar and wish our hallway wasn't only a metre or so long so I could be pacing up and down it.

He is gorgeous. Makes me very jealous as I am desperate for a dog but can't get one whilst we are both working full time (well I'm not working right now but I am looking).

What Michpuss said! I'd love a dog (labradoodle is the current favourite breed!) but we're in the house so little with full time work/hobbies, that it just wouldn't be fair. I've made Mr FigJam promise that if we have kids and I'm on mat. leave/cutting down to part time hours we can get a dog and will be holding him to it!

Oh my, he's gorgeous. I'd love a Border Collie, I was looking at a load yesterday online at local rescue centres.

We really really love a Weimaraner, but they can't be left alone at all.

Dexter looks the bees knees - or should that be the dog's bo**ocks LOL!

We have a collie-lab cross who is equally gorgeous. Here she is - although I apologise that she's not looking her polished best!!!!!!!

I want a basset griffon vendeen. It's not completely beyond the realm of possibility that H could take a dog to work so I'm working on him.

I have realised I am now really jealous! I want a puppy! <stamps foot> Please make sure you post lots of pictures and bore us to death ?

LouM - That is Hugo, the lead wolf as he's known. As you can see he's really very vicious. If you are ever in Birmingham you must come and meet them. Although they are very naughty!

Thanks everyone. He is rather cute isn't he? ?

I left him this morning to take my youngest to nursery and to do a bit of shopping. When I got back I listened through the letterbox first and there was no howling and so he got lots and lots of cuddles when I opened the crate. I also checked that you can't hear him from outside so I don't have to apologise to the neighbours either ?
