    I did!!

Felt really sorry for the last girl, think it was really obvious that she did not want to marry him, especially when she was saying at the end how hard their relationship is...I hope I won't be focusing on the bad points on my wedding day!

Also can't believe the dresses...would love to have known the cost!!

    What did you think?

    xx

I watched it with mixed opinions. While I was saying 'Oh my GOd' a lot at the dresses and other things, I do think that as well as it being down to individual taste, all traveller weddings are like that, so that seems to be expected of them. Just in the same way that most of us non travellers are probably having very similar style weddings.

Although I an understand why some venues are worried about the potential trouble of a traveller wedding I felt very sad for the bride who had her venue cancel 3 days before the wedding. Noone deserves that to happen.

I also felt very sad at how young these girls are. I personally think of 21/22 being quite young to get married, but 16 is too young to be making that life long commitment in my opinion. I also felt sad for the last girl, I'm not sure that she didn't want to mary him, but I think being 22 and being an old bride in her culture, possibly forced her into a marriage she wasn't quite ready for.

I saw it - thought it would be some good background for me, again the age of the brides and the dresses stood out to me - did some googling afterwards and found dresses being discussed 15K 12 K and 19K ouch

I watched it too, made me so sad at the end and none of the brides or grooms looked like it was the happiest day of their life, just what was expected of them, so so sad.

I watched it on catch up and must say I really admire the values that they have but can't help but think they seemed so young. The last Bride really looked scared as she had lead such a sheltered life & was petrified of leaving the security she had with her family.

I watched it with mixed feelings too. I was hoping to watch it and have a good laugh at the gaudy OTT outfits ?. But to be honest it made me feel quite sad. As much as I admired some of the morality and ethics of the travelling people, their closed society is sexist and old fashioned. They raise their daughters for a life of servitude.

Given a fair chance those young girls could be doctors, scientists, they could cure cancer or become Prime Minister but they will never get a fair chance.

When I finished watching it, I discussed it with Sue (my OH) and we came to the conclusion that these young girls have such large, expensive and OTT weddings because their wedding is the very last time that they can dress up, be young and feel like a princess.

    Quite sad.

(anyway back to laughing at the silly dresses?)

I to watched it with mixed emotions!

One minute i was thinking OMG and laughing at the outfits (if my guesrs turned up looking like that, i think i'd turn them away) then the next i was thinking that's everything i don't want my wedding or my married life to be!!

I'm going to be nearly 26 when i get married, that must be prehistoric to them, lol!

I had to laugh at the dresses, fancy having to be dragged out of the carriage cos your dress is soooo big. They couldn't even walk in them. It was a interesting programe and gave a good insight into their world. Yes it is a shame that the girls and boys get married so young when they could go on to do so much more with their lives, but it happens the world over, doesn't make it wrong. It's just not our culture!

I watched it and remembered a piece in our local paper about a traveller wedding a couple of years ago in gloucester, the bride was 16, she was something like 8 stone and the dress weighed about 12. anyway i beleive it cost about 20k. the dress was so big she couldn't fit in the car they'd hired (think it was a limo) to get her to the venue.

but i totally agree with the words above, i felt sorry for the 22 year old girl who'd been saving up her whole life for the wedding, she just looked completely scared stiff and as she was saying her vows looked terrified. her and her new husband looked like strangers.

I have to agree with everyone on this. I was laughing at the craziness of dresses etc. But i felt so sorry for some of the girls. Especially the girl who was late to wedding because she didnt want to leave home to mary a bloke shes seen twice!!!!!

I've just watched this on planner, its the first thing i've ever watched thats given me an insight into their way of life. the dresses did remind me of the type of thing that a celebs have like jordan would have. my stomach did sink when i thought how i'd feel if my wedding got cancelled 3 days before the big day, i'd be heart broken and don't think that anyone should be treated like that!!!

It was scary how few times most of the couples had met - really sad in some cases
