Anyone watching Antiques Roadshow

hazel, 16 November, 2008 at 19:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

I know, I know, rock n roll innit?

But there's going to be the first ever £1 million valuation on the programme and I'm trying to spot what it's going to be ?

Oh you've just reminded me that I wanted to watch it for that reason.

Ooooh it's in Newcastle as well. It must have been filmed a while ago, it certainly ain't warm enough to be stood outside without your arctic coat at the minute

I've got it on! Isn't it supposed to be something fairly new as well (so not a real antique in normal terms).

I was going to until I ruined it for myself and read in the paper what it is. I'm not bothered about seeing it now. That's not meant to suggest that anyone would be disappointed, just that it killed my own curiosity. I'm such a child.

Now I have remembered to turn the TV on I am watching.

It always annoys me when its something they paid 50p for as it seems so unfair that we dont have something like that ?

I thought that they were keeping what the item was a secret. Bit sad that someone hasn't managed to keep quiet if that was the case!

You beat me to it! I have to say I'm not surprised, everyone seems to have a soft spot for the angel of the north.

How is that an antique? I thought it was going to be a little old lady who found a lost master in the attic, not the bloody council who own a large piece of modern art by a very famous sculptor. I want my money back. ?

So does the "Angel" belong to him or the council?

Bah. It would have been far more theatrical had it been an unsuspecting little old lady who had some unloved family heirloom squirrelled away in the sideboard for the past 50 years.

Me too. Quite sad that it was that - was hoping for something more like the faberge broach they've just shown (which I think is gorgeous even if I would never wear it myself).

oddly this is why I feel cheated because I can't believe that it belongs to an individual - has to be the councils!

    I feel cheated!

How old does something need to be to be an anitique? Surely its only about 10 years old, as thats how old the Angel is?

Really wanted it to be some old couple struggling to meet the electric bill, not the blumin council who can now sell it to help pay for the orginal.

I've been avoiding this post as I was watching on delay TV - and really excited to see it. I too feel cheated - It's not the same when it belongs to the council is it?

    ☹️

    Oh...

I've just looked it up on the BBC News website, that's a bit dull! I thought it would be something someone had hanging in their lounge for years or something exciting.
