Anyone with tattoos? Did you have them on show on your wedding day?

Debs12xx, 5 October, 2012 at 02:08 Posted on Planning 0 37

Hiya,

Have any of you got tattoos? I have one on the top of my arm (a few flowers) and one on my shoulder (it's quite big and bloody horrible too!) I don't want them on show on my wedding day but also don't want a dress with sleeves and I'm quite liking the idea of strapless. I have found some stuff by Kat Von D, it's like foundation but to cover up tattoos, I just wondered if anyone on here had tried it or anything like it?

P.S I am going to a wedding dress shop tomorrow!! First time looking at dresses Smiley laugh

I regularly get requests to photoshop tattoos off brides at Weddings, have a chat to your photographer to check they're comfortable with this. Should take a weight off your mind...

My bridesmaid has tattoo's on both arms. One looks like a cabbage (supposed to be a rose - I'm allowed to say this as she hates it and is having laser treatment to get it removed!) and the other is a row of roses on barbed wire. She has a devil on one shoulder and a sun on the other. All the girls are wearing strapless but she will use cover up makeup, which I think is like the stuff you're talking about. She used it when she was BM at another friend's wedding and it worked really well.

If my tattoos were on display it would either mean a backless dress or tea length, neither of which I'm going with, even though I like my tattoos!

I had a horrid black eye once, and I needed make up to cover it, so I got kat von d's tattoo concealer and it worked a charm!

I also have one on my shoulder which is quite big but which I had completely forgotten about because it is rarely on display. However, I do want to wear either a backless or strappy dress, so I need to get thinking. I was thinking I could perhaps tie some decorative ribbons or flowers to the straps at the back to cover it but that might look a bit naff. So perhaps concealer is the only option. Would it not rub off onto the clothing though? Perhaps it would mean that I would have to use a backless dress because I wouldn't want it to discolour the straps.

I have quite a large back tattoo which would be on show if I was to choose a traditional wedding dress (strapless) as its quite high up, however I dont think I would cover it up, as I do love it!

Sorry not much help am I? If you want them covered, then I know that the Kat Von D stuff works well.

I had my tattoo on show. Not deliberately, but since it's on my shoulderblade, most dresses would show it. I didn't even think about it when choosing a dress. I suppose when i got the tattoo I considered whether I'd still like it in 50yrs time, whether I would want people to see it, etc, etc, and thought about it long and hard before even having a tattoo. Therefore it's just part of me, I don't like it so much that displaying it's a must, or hate it so much it needs covering. I don't regret having it, I do still like it, but if I woke up one day and it was gone that would be OK too. So if a dress showed it, great, if it didn't, again, great.

I have 24 stars down my back from the nape of my neck to shoulder blade. I love my tattoo and it's part of me and will absolutely be showing it off. I'm even considering putting some diamantes or colouring in the stars ?

My veil will cover my back during the ceremony and probably meal then I'll want it taken off.

I wouldn't mind so much if I liked the tattoo but I don't. I'm going to give the kat von d a trial run and see how long it lasts and if it rubs off on clothes etc. Thanks girls!

P.S I went to the wedding dress shop, I will do a new thread for that! x

I have a tattoo on my shoulder. I wanted a dress with little capped sleeves, but went with one with straps instead. I found some cover up make up from a theatre shop, which worked well and lasted almost all night. There is make up available out there.

Oh that's good to know Jo, did it mark your dress at all? Can you remember what it was called? x

I have one that goes from just under my hair line all down my spine and I'm not covering it. I love it and it very rarely gets shown off because it's so blinking cold in this country! Get loads of compliment when I'm on hols though. I would worry so much about the cover up stuff rubbing off and having bits on show and a stained dress.

I just can't bring myself to wear such a beautiful dress and have all those wacky colourful tattoos on show with it. Generally I don't mind showing them (apart from the one I hate) but only when I am wearing clothes to suit! x

Classic hitched- there is a fab thread about this. The phrase "women who have tattoos are chavvy slappers" was a particular fave.

I dont see why people would want to cover thier tatts up? Why spend your wedding day pretending to be someone your not?

It's not about trying to be someone I'm not. I wouldn't wear trainers with a little black dress even though I like trainers, they just don't 'go'. And in my opinion MY tattoos don't 'go' with my dress. I have a big one on my shoulder that I don't like and that will be the first one to be covered up. One on my arm isn't offensive, just flowers but I don't want that on show either. I don't mind the ones on my wrists, they are special names and only small. The rest won't be seen as they are elsewhere on my body.

Thanks Gracefly, I have looked at that and seen the clip of her using it. It looks good on her but the reviews are hit and miss. I may give it a whirl though. Someone on here I think suggested Mac - I also found a wedding MUA that does tattoo cover ups too so if I can't do it I will see if I can get her to if I have her do my make up x

I don't think I will bother with tanning, never had a spray tan before they scare me haha I don't want it to run on my dress either because that would be just my luck! I will try them both out and see which is best, I have a year to figure out which one works.

I have a friend who is a MUA, she regularly reviews products etc on YouTube and gets asked by lots of companies to review their products, she uses a product by Keromask London on her own tattoos, probably easier to get hold of than the KVD product.

Sorry to butt in, I don't have any tattoos, was just wondering if these concealer things would work with scars too? What do you think?

Ulli, I heard that airbrush is brilliant, I have seen before and after photos on MUA websites too. I am thinking of having that as my make up too so may see if they can cover my tats x
