Application form for renting property- providing bank details

Mrs S Smith, 31 August, 2008 at 15:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

Hi guys,

Just filling out a form for H and I to get a new place to rent - why do they need our bank details, such as sort code and account number on the application form? They don't even want to see us yet to get ID from us or anything.. Am I the only one who finds this a bit strange?

?

TBH I just thought it was for a credit check. If you are unsure give them a call in the morning and ask them what they need it for at this stage.

It'll be for the credit check. It's normal practice.

Standard practice for referencing Mrs Smith

Are you paying for this and if so, do you mind me asking how much?

Our lettings dept charges £35 per adult to do the tenant checks - but you can use the same application to go for another house if it comes back ok but for some reason you don't get your first choice. people normally get their first choice though. letsure do the checks for us.

i was under the impression that showing you have a uk bank account is an extra mark in your favour - you have to show various forms of id to get one, etc.

Oooh sorry had an interesting day so couldn't get back on here to reply til now..

I think it's £215/person for holding fee, referencing fee and credit check fee... does that sound reasonable?

We charge £35 p.p. so not really! and we're the local '100 yrs old and respectable' firm so it's not as if it's a cheapo thing...

i know other people charge more locally but i've never heard of £215 pp! are you in london? we're up in the north so rents round here are often monthly what they would be weekly anywhere around london, that may be the difference. if you don't mind me asking, how much are you thinking of paying monthly?

OMG MooMoo the charges down here must be extortionate in relation to yours, then!

We were looking to move into central Cambridge - but have decided it's the wrong time, so are going to stay put. Can't remember how much we got charged last time, I think it was something around the £200 mark for the house we're in.

The property we were looking at was £945, and the current place is £640. The current place is out in the sticks though, and a VERY bad shape house..

Thanks for all your help guys!
