Hi all! Just thought I would update you on the chemo! Thankfully it's going well and I haven't had many side effects, other than all my hair falling out which is gutting cosiI'd been growing it for a year! My dress came in last week though and it is gorgeous so that cheered me up no end! Cancer is responding really well to treatment so should only need a little operation after Christmas and be cancer free by the wedding! I'm so glad I've got this to look forward to

Fantastic news victoria! And brilliant that your dress cheered you up, have you flashed it yet?

Best wishes charlinc, hope you can see the light at the end of whatever tunnel you're going through.

Has anyone sent out invitations tonight, when have/are you asking people to RSVP by?

Haven't sent mine out yet. Not sure when I should. It's a Thursday wedding in the Easter holidays so I'm worried people won't be able to come, I have sent out stds though.

This is exactly our situation. Hopefully sending our very simple invitations out soon, just have to wait for my fiance to pull his finger out and design them! I tried myself but they looked rubbish and he is so much better at that sort of thing. We are referring guests to our website, but for the older and technophobe guests I think we will end up organising them ourselves or they will no doubt call us asking for info so we will just tell them over the phone.

Hi all! Just seen this thread and got so excited that others are getting married in April too! We only booked our venue and therefore our date last month and as normally I'm a bit of a procrastinator, I'm really impressed with how much I've got done in a month! Still loads to do, but most of the 'important' things are booked. Due to give notice on November 5th but we need to get hold of OH's mom's birth certificate as his passport is out of date. Little awkward as sadly she passed away when he was 18 and no-one in the family seems to have a copy! Also, don't really know what this meeting entails? Can anyone give me a heads up? I'm a natural worrier and have been stressing out about it!

Hope everyone's plans are coming along nicely!

Have just put a post up flashing my dress! im in love with it!

As for invitations, I have had ours printed now, I just have to put them together. I was thinking of posting them mid/end of November. Its a bit early but our wedding is Easter Monday so I thought it would be better to send them early and then people can book the day after off work if they need to.

I've also just booked a facepainter for the kids, theyre going to love that! About a third of our guest list is kids because our friends have so many and I thought it would be nice to do something fun for them too so we now have the facepainter, a bouncy castle and giant games like jenga and connect 4 to keep them occupied.

Hi Spring Bride, if you cant find a copy of the birth certificate you can easily order a copy from the general register office. It will cost a few quid but no more than a tenner I think

    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

Hope that helps - certificates usually only take a week or so to come so if you order it now you should have it in time x

    Hi all

I am April 11th and I sent my invites a few weeks ago, with a date to RSVP by 1 November - mainly because I have a long waiting list and I want to be sure I can invite them in plenty of time. No one seems to have found it too weird.

Really want to start going into minute detail now but think I'm still too early :-)

    Hi Expensivepurplediamonds,

Ours is on April 11th too!! We are only having 10 guests though and they have all got the date in their diary so we just need to do nice, proper invites probably after Christmas...

So exciting - enjoy your planning x

    11th April here as well.

I am planning to send invitations the first week of January - all the important people have already been made aware of the date. There are a few people who we will be hoping may not come (just for our numbers) so we a re tactically not telling them the date in advance!

Thanks Victoriahbell! We're going to the office to get it as it's: a) not too far away from us and b) OH doesn't know all the details so we may need to do a search! Fully expecting to have to reschedule appointment, but OH is convinced it'll be easy. He's so laid back it's infuriating sometimes! Makes me glad I have control over 99% of the wedding planning!

Haha, don't know why I put 'tonight' when I meant 'yet', I didn't mean to be so specific lol! I think we're going to send them out by end of November and ask for RSVPs by mid-January. Another question; has everyone put the actual ceremony time on the invitations or is it normal to put a note like 'Please arrive by...'?

Had a look at your dress btw victora, it's so lovely!

I was going to put the ceremony time, I don't think I've ever seen 'arrive by' as a guest. Maybe for the evening guests we will put 'arrive from' though.

My god, we went to our venue today all excited to choose the food and whatnot, it turned into a 3 hour planning session! Was not expecting that at all and actually our planner was asking so many questions that we couldn't answer it was embarrassing e.g. how many speeches are you having, are bridesmaids walking down the aisle etc. I haven't even asked my FSIL to be BM yet! Feeling so stressed and disorganised now :-/

Thanks many-names, tha's what I was going for but was just about to print and started to question everything! I've just emailed our venue to go for our menu tasting, hoping we can have a shortish meeting actually as we've got a couple of questions.

You should put the ceremony time, although you can add, "please take your seats by" say 15 minutes before although people are rarely late for weddings Smiley winking x

Might have to pull some bridezilla out the bag if any guests are late, I've been planning this wedding for almost 3 years and so it can't be pushed back even by a minute hehe

but yes, we are putting ceremony time on ours. Are you all doing order of the day/order of service?

Ok; I've gone for ceremony time, we're likely to see all the guests in the weeks beforehand so if I start getting worried I can mention it! I think we're going to have a big order of the day on a board rather than individual ones but not completely decided yet.

Ooh now that's a good idea!!!! I'm still with individual ones but will give the one board some thought. I'm already having a "pick a seat not a side" board as my hope for not having a cetnral aisle is scuppered. I had hoped for just a single set of seats but the room just can't handle it well enough Smiley sad

Slightly concerned now and wondering if I need to be! Been to fetch OH's mom's birth certificate today so we can give notice next week (his passport's out of date) but OH had a bit of a surprise when it turned out the name his mother was born with is NOT the name she claimed to be her maiden name on HIS birth certificate! Does anyone know if this is this going to cause us a problem?

    Thanks!

Controversial. I remember my dads reaction when he worked out my nan must have been a pregnant bride (she's catholic). Took him around 50 years to actually realise the cross over of dates with my grandparents anniversary and my uncles birthday!

Are you sure you need his mums birh certificate? Our local authority just want to see OH's birth certificate plus proof of address (his passport is also out of date like yours).

On another note, I had a very productive wedding day yesterday. Managed to get most of the addresses we need and have finished designing the invitations (got sick of waiting for OH to do it, it was his job). So I now just have to get OH to finish the website which is nearly done, then we can start printing and sending our invitations, which is making this all seem very real now. I also made quite a few more pomanders which we are using as decorations for the ceremony.

Did anyone else have a successful weekend?

I had a productive wedding weekend too! My H2B was home for the weekend and i managed to arrange a meeting with the wedding planner at our venue. She's lovely and we had a really good chat plus she gave us some great ideas/advice. Then today we picked ties, the suits for the groomsmen/best man and contacted the men asking for their rough sizes so i can place an order. Plus we had another look at trimming down the guest list. Also booked my hair trial and hair appointment on the morning of the wedding for me, BMs and my mum.

I was thinking about doing invites start of December or start of Jan, not sure. my RSVP date on them is middle of March. I'm anxious because it is Easter people will be going on holiday!

So exciting seeing everyones plans coming along! Not so much of a productive weekend as a productive week for us, invitations made (will flash when I've done the RSVP cards), rings ordered and mine is in, I need to go and try it on, suits booked, car for my dad and I booked, contacted our venue for meal tasting just need to figure out a date, it's all going on!

My Dad was the same. Didn't twig till my grandparents ruby wedding anniversary that he'd turned 40 a few months before!

Registrars office said we'd need birth certificate and passport each, but as his passport's out of date she said we'd need his mothers birth certificate. He'd still be none the wiser otherwise! So glad we paid extra to wait or he'd have gone to fetch it Wednesday to find out they couldn't find her using the names we'd given!

Hopefully it'll be ok and have had a family history search done to find out when granny married 'grandad'. At least we can show that the name on OH's Birth certificate is definitely linked to his mother!

On a lighter note, good to see plans are coming together for everyone! :-)

    Hi all,
Getting married on the 24th April eek! Only got engaged 3 weeks ago ha! Just wondering when everyone was planning to send their invites out? We wanted to send the day invites out first and wait for a reply before sending the evening invites out ideally. Just wondering if jan would be ok??

Congrats Jen! Ours is the 22nd. Planning to send out day invites in Jan along with invites for guests we definitely only want for the evening. We'll send out extra day invites to the 'would likes' if any ppl decline along with the other evening guests who didn't quite make the cut. (Feels cold putting it like that, but there it is!)

Oh and an update on the giving notice front. Big fat fail! Got to get OH's passport renewed. He was not happy and the woman was completely unhelpful. Kept saying we'd have to talk to family members to get the relevant documents to prove his mother is the woman who's birth certificate we got! If no-one mentioned the name discrepancy for 31 years, chances are they didn't flipping know! Frustrating!
