Congrats to everyone getting married in April 2016.

Special hello and congrats to those who are my date twins (2nd April) and also to those of you who are getting married on my Birthday (16th) - good choice!

Thanks for starting the thread Pooba. We hit the 9 month mark yesterday so starting to get a bit more excited. Plus we go for our menu tasting on Saturday so it's starting to feel a bit more real!

ExpensivePickCakes316 - apparently a lot of people have good taste! Unfortunately, I'm not one of them ?

Did you choose your date for a special reason? Ours was a process of elimination. We got engaged this May, didn't want to wait too long. We like spring, I like April, we had two dates available and preferred the 21st. Boom.

Nikkijj86 - No worries. I was a bit paranoid there was already one hanging around, but couldn't find one so bit the bullet! As the other [Specific Month] Brides threads say, the 2016 thread is way too many pages long and it's hard to keep track!

Can't believe you have a menu tasting at the weekend, how exciting! Our venue is having an open day in October where we talk to all of the suppliers and at that point we'll organise to talk to our caterers properly and sort out the menu.

We do; however, have an initial meeting with a local cake maker today which should be good. Or bad... haven't a clue what I want the cake to look like, so my OH and I are probably going to rock up and be like ?

Hi everyone! I'm an April bride too (23rd) and was hoping someone would start a thread as there's so much to catch up with on the 2016 one if you skip a couple of days! It's scary now we're all nearly down to 9 months - so much still left to plan!! x

HCBao - For everything I am thankful for, the most important thing is that Hitched isn't blocked at work Smiley tongue I'm one of those people who is cooking on gas for 50 minutes, but needs a ten minute break just to daydream and get back in the zone. Hitched is my haven!

WideEyedWonder - congratulations! I've added you to the list, which is looking mighty fine. How are you getting on with the organisation?

We had a fairly productive weekend. The cake appointment on Friday went really well; very awkward at first, but we pounced on an idea which ran and ran and ran and now it looks like our cake is going to be one of the main features of the day. (As in, the rest of the day is going to be fairly standard with no surprises, but the cake is going to be a standout, big, bold and beautiful creation!)

We've pretty much sorted out our guest list, so need to start letting people know about the date - we're getting married on a Thursday and not sending out official STDs.

I'm going to send over the deposit for DJ today, so that will be sorted.

We're meeting with a photographer tonight and if he lives up to website and general demeanor on the phone, we'll probably be booking him.

Very exciting! Hope you all had nice weekends, despite the weather!

It seems that my work blocks Hitched as well, it lets me look at it but wont let me publish any posts Smiley sad Probably a good thing though else i would never get any work done.

Have been engaged since last summer and have been putting the plans together slowly until now, suddenly we have reached to point in the timeline where we need to book things and make decisions!! The excitement has suddenly gone up a notch!

OH and I are getting married about 300 miles away from where we live so trying to meet with supplier in batches. Next week of planning is scheduled for September and with a bit of luck today our venue sent us an invite to the menu tasting which happens to fit in the same week - yey!

Also on my list for that week is flowers and cake. Pooba, as you have just had your cake appointment you might be able to answer this (and anyone else doing this at the moment) - did they expect you to have lots of very clear ideas about what you wanted when you met with them? I don't really have a clue where to start and was sort of hoping they would give me the ideas!

    Hello ladies

I'm an April bride too! Friday 15th is my and H2b's date.

My venue is booked, dress and suits sorted. Am going to see the florist this week and booking the DJ.

    Just got bridesmaids to sort.

Hit a big bump last week though, the company that owns my wedding hotel and one other had gone into administration :-( :-(. I have spoken to them and they have assured me my booking will be honoured and they are 'very much open for business'. It's a really busy hotel and they tell me there had been some financial problems with the other one. I am due to have a meeting with the administrators in September so I'll see what they have to say and make a decision then

So I'm carrying on planning at the moment!

Hello there hi! As of today, I'm officially an April 2016 bride! 16th April ? Got engaged on 13th June (yep last month!) and so far venue is booked, registrar is booked and dress is bought and ordered - it's been a busy month, but figured I had some catching up to do considering we had less than a year! We didn't want a summer wedding (more expensive and I'm one of those rare summer scrooges), winter felt too far away, so spring it was!

I'm an April bride too Smiley smile We have booked our wedding for the 29th!

How far has everyone got to with their planning? I have booked most of the big things, and I have now hit a bit of a lull. I need to start thinking of invites, but I don't seem to have a clue what sort of design to do...

    So far I have:

    Church

    Venue

    TOG

    Videograher

    DJ

    Room decor company

    Dress

    Bridesmaid Dresses

    Bridesmaid shoes

    Florist

    String Trio

Looking forward to hearing all about your weddings! Eek xx

Will run through personals, hopefully this message won't be too long... (although who am I kidding? Work is rubbish at the moment, so anything I can do to avoid it is good!)

ExpensivePinkCakes316 - it always makes it seem very real when you start ending out confirmation emails and deposits. Yesterday I sent over money to the DJ and today it's £400 deposit for the photographer! I'm quite pleased though, all of the major points of the day are starting to come together so at least we'll have some sort of semblance of a wedding!

Well done for organising things from so far away and sounds like a good idea to do batch meetings.

Re. cake, we went in with very little idea of what we wanted, other than we didn't like fruit cake! We started brainstorming and all of a sudden hit on the idea of making it a masterpiece and it all fell into place from there. I wouldn't worry too much, though. The woman we spoke to was very experienced and helpful so if they know what they're doing, it shouldn't be too laborious a task! I'm looking forward to the sampling stage Smiley laugh

Mrs_Johnson2B - welcome! I'm so sorry to hear about your hotel worries, I have fingers and toes crossed for you that everything works out. Did you have a written contract in place? Do you know if your deposit and suchlike will be refunded should the worst happen?

KJHC - welcome to you too! I was following your posts in the registrar thread/s; glad you got everything sorted! I'm amazed you've done so much in so little time. We got engaged in May and it's only the last few weeks we've started pulling our thumb out and researching.

I know what you mean about spring vs. rest of year - April really was the only month we wanted. I'm so excited to be a spring bride!

KJ2016 - a final welcome to you also! You put the rest of us to shame with your 'Done' list - I'll be amazed if I'm that organised by the end of the year!

Invites are a tricky one. We're hoping to send them out with Christmas cards right at the beginning of December (we moved a few months ago as well, so the cards will contain our new address, Christmas wishes and our invite!) but scared the envelopes will be too bulky! I'm tempted to not have anything fancy, just a piece of paper with the details on, but that does seem a little sad... Guess it depends on how I feel in the next few months.

HCBao - blimey, honeymoon! I'd fudging forgotten about that minor thing. Shucks, I need to start researching that as well! Oopsy.

Question re. honeymoon - how many of you are going directly on full-blown honeymoon vs.. mini-moon?

    Hi everyone,

I'm an April 2016 bride too, getting married on the 16th!

So far we have the venue, the photographer, musician, make up artist and registrar all booked and I've put a deposit on my dress! We've sent out our save the dates and we have three people who have agreed to read during our ceremony!

We are hoping to book our honeymoon this week and will be going about a month after the wedding.

The one thing we are struggling with is someone to do my hair so if anyone has any suggestions for a hairdresser in London who does up dos that would be great!

    Happy wedding planning everyone!

    Congratulations Michaela525.

Sorry I can't help on the hairdresser front, we have booked someone In our local area who doesn't cover London Smiley sad however I'm sure if you contact local salons to you, they will have people who can come out and do you hair on the morning?

Where are you thinking of going on your honeymoon?

Pooba: I think we are going to go on our main honeymoon about 2 weeks after the wedding. However I know a lot of people who have had a mini moon and they have loved it, as it meant they were able to save up a bit more for their main one.

    Xx

Congratulations and welcome, Michaela525. Well done on having so much organised Smiley smile

I'm in Dorset, so can't recommend anyone in London; however as KJ2016 has suggested, local salons should be able to help. Does your current hairdresser do wedding hair? Can they recommend anyone?

I still need to organise hair/make up, but I'm a little stuck. Prices seem to range quite dramatically in this area and I'm not sure what to do about my Mum, MIL and SIL (SIL is my only bridesmaid and the current plan is for the four of us to get ready together). My Mum and MIL are probably only going to need their hair blow-dried, no make up. SIL is a make-up and hair do guru so I'm (rightly or wrongly?) a bit wary/annoyed/don't want to pay a lot of money to get her sorted as well. I would ask her to do mine, but kind of want someone else to come in and sort me out!

Does that make me a bad person?!

We had a very strange weekend. Stayed at a friend's parent's house for his birthday and they had a big party with lots of family and other friends. No word of a lie, there were 4 other couples who have all got engaged in the past 2-3 months, so talk inevitably got round to weddings. It was so weird being around so many people at the same stage as us in planning process and it was nice not to feel guilty about talking wedding-talk for so long!

Also, the OH asked our friend to be his best man. Cue lots of hugs and tears Smiley smile Very happy!

Feeling very excited today as things feel like they're coming together with 8 months to go!

    - Dress bought and has arrived in Florida (where my mum lives), will get fitted and have alterations while am there in December for Xmas, then bringing it to UK! If anyone has any recommendation for good London based seamstresses for final fittings, that would be great!

    - Venue booked

-Registrar booked (after slight panic we wouldn't get the time we wanted!)

    - Photographer booked

    - Hair stylist booked

    - Make up will be booked on Saturday

    - And Save the Dates have just arrived!

    Next - DJ!

    Excitement!!

Awesome, well done for getting so much organised, KJHC!

I'm kind of stuck in a rut at the moment. We've organised venue, photographer, registrar, cake, dress and DJ.

Giving notice in two weeks and have a ceremony appointment with the registrar in November.

Have an appointment with a wedding shop to see the dress my bridesmaid has picked out on Saturday. Will probably have to get the credit card out for that one.

The big thing is in October - our venue has an open weekend where all of their suppliers come in and the place is set up in different themes so we can see how things can/will be set out. I need to speak to the caterers (to organise proper meeting to discuss menu), MUA + hair, photographer (to organise our engagement shoot) and florist. Hopefully after that weekend, a lot more will be sorted in my head.

Just can't believe we still have over 8 months to go. I can't remember what my life was like before all this wedding malarkey!

So, fairly productive weekend. We have the bridesmaid dress - and MIL will be paying for all £195 of it, which I'm thankful for!

My Mum saw a couple of outfits she liked, so we have more of an idea of what she'll be going for.

OH started making some decisions about suits - just need to get the enthusiasm up to go and start trying things on!

I've also started sending out STD style text and emails, which is scary good.

Hope you're all enjoying the planning process Smiley smile

Very productive weekend for you - nice one! I still need to get bridesmaid dresses for three and I'm dreading it! It's the bit I've been putting off the most! I hate shopping - esp when I'm looking for something in particular haha, but, not keen on relying on online when they're all such different body types!

On the upside - make up artist is now booked and we've picked a DJ (who we found through a hitched recommendation!)

Next - florist, room decorators, suits, flower girls and page boy outfits!

It's one of the main reasons I only have one bridesmaid - plus the family politics! I don't think I could have coped organising a dress for more than one. Thankfully she did all the research and trying on, my Mum and I only had to rock up, see the dress, approve and then go for a nice cup of coffee afterwards.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Well done on booking your MUA and picking a DJ. I'll be honest, a lot of the suppliers we've chosen have either come with the package our venue offered or are approved by them. I figure if something goes wrong, at least we can blame them as opposed to my shoddy research Smiley tongue

Passed the 8 month mark yesterday and I am super excited! We had a productive day yesterday and we started making the fruit vodka which will be our favours and place names and started making our invitations before we ran out of ribbon.

Booked to see a seamstress next monday about alterations on my dress, then got food tasting at venue at beginning of September and BM dress shopping in about a month.

Everytime I think we are getting on top of things I find more jobs that need doing. The next thing on my list is booking the internal flights for our honeymoon. Eeeek!!

I know the feeling Pooba. I am virtually counting down the days, hours and minutes until the 16th.

I had my first dress fitting appointment on Monday and got back into my dress for the first time since I bought it in May. I was worried that I wouldn't love it as much as I remembered but as soon as I will in it I fell head over heels with it again.

My next big thing is we are off for our menu tasting next weekend, which I am looking forward to and bridesmaid dress shopping a few weeks after that.

I keep flitting between thinking I am really on top of things and panicking at the amount still left to organise!

Nik - it's awful isn't it? Every day I check the countdown and get annoyed it's not going down faster. Then I get angry because I have so many exciting things happening between now and April and I shouldn't be wasting my life waiting for a date that will come eventually. And then I get scared because yes, the date will come and then what...? Ha ha. I'm not mental, honest!

How did your dress fitting go?! I'm not sure when mine will be; I got the dress in July and from memory, I don't think I have a fitting until 10-12 weeks before the wedding. I'm not planning on losing/gaining a huge amount of weight, so hopefully it will be fine and require minimum alterations. Just need to work on my bingo wings - I'd always planned on having a 3/4 length or long sleeved dress so I wouldn't have to worry, but oh no, I had to go for the capped sleeves Smiley tongue

I'm exactly the same about panicking/chilling out about the things I need to do. I can't really organise much else until the open day at our venue in October where we meet a lot of our suppliers and get an idea about decorations/flowers/everything. This is where the wishing your life away is really bad - we have 2 weeks planned in Scotland and then the meeting at the venue the day after we get back. I just know I'm going to spend the holiday waiting for the meeting... and then be absolutely gutted that the holiday is over and having to go back to work!

HM2016/MH2016 - I've changed your name to your username, which is different to the one you asked to change to! Just let me know if I've done it wrong Smiley smile

I'm glad I am not the only feeling like that! You have put my mind at ease that this feeling is normal.

The dress fitting went really well. Ibought the dress when I hyad come back from a month of travelling so had put on a few extra pounds. The dress was snug when I bought it and having a lost a few pounds it fitted perfectly at the fitting. It was a big loose round my boobs and I hope to lose a couple more pounds (nothing drastic) so it will need slight altering but my dress maker said she would do that closer to the time. I just need it slightly taking up and the overskirt to be attached to the dress which she is doing for me.

Don't you find it is the dress style you didnt think you would go for that you fall in love with? Even when the shop picked out my dress both me and mum said no way but fell in love with it once on.

I also tried my shoes on with my dress as I wasn't sure they would go as they are not your traditional shoes but I loved them even more once on. My mum thinks the heel is too high though but I love them so much that I don't care!

    232 days to go....

Ha ha, we can be mental together!

So glad your dress fitting went well and you're happy with your shoes! Non-traditional, eh? Fancy flashing them?!

Have you got anything else sorted for the outfit (i.e. veil, jewellery, MUA, hair)?

I thought I'd end up with a rather poofy, princess dress - something to hide within seeing as I go for baggy, comfortable clothes most of the time - and have actually got a form fitting, loose-mermaid style thing. Certainly not what I expected, but my mum, MIL and SIL all said it looked fantastic and suited me better than anything else and I wasn't going to argue with them!
