Thank goodness it's not just me, looking to get married in Greece Sep 2015! I'm fed up with everyone saying "oh thats a long way off" Yes I kow it is lol. Is anyone else having trouble booking things in advance? Places I've contacted have said they haven't got prices/diary sorted etc.. just want things set in stone now and I think then I will chill abit :-)
Congratulations to you all and I'm looking forward to counting down the days, weeks and years with you
We've had the same trouble. As soon as people hear 2015, we stop hearing back. We contacted numerous vendors to begin with and had replies from 2 out of around 20. The only caterers who replied were the ones wanting £5000+ for a basic evening hog roast!
When we contact people initially we don't tend to mention the date anymore, just enquire about what they offer, current prices and so on. Then if we're interested we put them in our little book and have concluded that for things like catering we're just going to have to wait it out.
Hopefully as we move into 2013, places will be more accommodating as then its moving into the 2 year mark.
Aside from our venues, nothing else booked as yet!
Thanks! o really! we havnt found this at all i think mayb cz if they book u its garenteed business in a few yrs time isnt it. but then agen we are only looking at reception venues at the moment so maybe we will come across this issue when she start looking at other things. chin up and stay postive, we'r providing sercurity for their business' after all!
Invites have been chosen just deciding on the information to put in them, good job she is so accommodating as venue etc although I know where we want it is not booked yet.
Got lots of ideas and I think everyone is right we have given ourselves plenty of time to plan and hopefully won't turn into bridezillas as we will be so organised!
I actually went to look at some wedding dresses yesterday, mainly because my mum wanted to know what kind of prices we would be looking at and to see what kind of styles suited me - absolutely no intention of getting anything just to have a fun girly day with my bridesmaids & mum.
To cut a long story short, i found THE dress ? its an Ian Stuart one - currently £1887 - but they were selling the sample dress for £800 with the detail on the dress, i just couldn't leave it...WHAT IF SOMEONE WENT IN MONDAY AND BOUGHT IT?!?! ?
With the style it is, i KNOWi wont get bored of it - but i'm scared to tell anyone in case i get the "don't you think you got it too soon" with the already combined "why are you waiting 3 years".
Also, went and saw my venue again on friday now its finally fully refurbished and opened - it is amazingly beautiful and i am so happy - and i also have my photographer booked!
A similar thing happened to me with my dress. When I found my Maggie Sottero and for only £450 there was no way I was not getting it!
People are always surprised and i've had my fair share of awkward looks like i'm crazy, but i'm really not fussed. As far as I can see, why wouldn't you buy something if you're saving a thousand pounds!?
Tell them all to shuttttt ittttt! wen uv found the dress uv found it, u cnt help if it early in other ppls options. re the 'y wait 3 yrs comment'... cz my bank account is guna b restroyed and i need money in it first to pay for stuff!!! grrr stupid ppl
Thanks for the pep talk, its nice to know i'm not the only one and since I've last posted I have ordered my invites, ordered some of my wedding favors and e-mailed some venues regarding my reception when we come home (we getting married in Greece). I agree ladies one of the main reason we are getting married in three years is I've not got a couple of grand just laying around and I don't fancy getting into debt.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions regarding wedding insurance?
Everyone I've looked at doesn't seem to cover you unless the wedding is within the next 2 years.
Has anyone managed to find insurers who will cover the wedding being almost 3 years away, or ones who are happy to cover booking made prior to taking out insurance?
We've now found our caterers too, yay! Finally a company who's replied to us and who aren't quoting over £5000 for a basic hog roast (we've scrapped that idea!)
They've offered this years prices too which is amazing. Now to scrape together the deposit with Christmas coming up and it being out of season, boooo ☹️
Hope your planning as coming along well, since I last posted i've had an e-mail saying we can book our wedding now and not next June/July as we thought yay! So deposit has been put down so I now have a definite date: Wed 16th September 2015!
Now looking at insurance ans I have had the same problem as pav photography with regards to only covering 2 years, has anyone found one that would cover from now?
If you can find an insurrance would it be an idea to pay for stuff on a credit card ( but making sure u pay off in full each month) as then that covers you for alot of stuff anyways and u can get ur money back if sumthing goes rong x
I've been wondering whether to start shopping for dresses - if the new stock comes in January I might try and persuade my Mum & best mate to hit the shops...
No i haven't found anything for insurance yet
Another question I had is what if I've paid for my deposits in advance of the two year mark and then get insurance? Will they still pay out?
Never to soon to dress shop! i say do it! i cant wait to go altho this is a stressfull academic year for me anyways to might save it for a treat/ to reward myself come the summer hehe
ooo micky and minnie, iv just realised wer both july weddings how exciting altho im the later end, the 27th
Hi Ladies, its the one thing i'm putting off. Everything else i've searched for even down to silly things such as favours etc. I'm really not that sure what style I would like and i'm quite down about my weight atm so I think i'm going to look awful in anything! I agree though never too early to start looking, make a day of it have some champers!
OH wont just pick a reception venue and its annoying me a lot! I'm leavin it up to him to pick and sort but we've spent like 2 months looking at venues and now wer down to two and he won't just hurry up and pick one! Can't help but feel like he just wants to put everything off x
Could he think that you have a preference and is worried about making the wrong decision? He might be holding out to see if you left slip which one you want ?
The one I want isn't in the finally two sadly but the last two are also fab. Also I no he isn't planning anything as I have the money for deposit so be has to ask me for he money. Basically he dragging his heels ... Loser! Hehe feel the love
Can I join? Were getting married in June 2015. Not sure what date though, whatever day is cheapest :-)
Were having our recpetion on the 18th of July, we know that! Our ceremony is going to be us, our children and our parents, jetting off on honeymoon for 2 weeks, the the recption.
Havent booked anything yet. Have a list of potential venues that we will be visiting in january to make our decision. I gather you pay your deposit pretty sharpish once youve made the decision, and with 3 kids and the run upto xmas, we dont have that cash wafting about and OH doesnt want to take it out of the savings :-(
Sorry for the waffle!
Cant wait to pick your brains over the next couple of years :-)
Usually venues are pretty eager for you to get your deposit down as they wont hold your date otherwise. Having said that if you're opting for the cheapest day as opposed to a Friday/Saturday/Sunday it'll probably be mid-week so at this stage the majority of venues will still have good availability for a while yet, so no need to rush
Alternatively you could pay it on a 0% credit card so that you're covered if anything goes wrong (wedding insurance only usually covers weddings within 2 years) that way you can get it booked and pay it off as/when you have the money without any interest to pay ?
I shouldnt think the ceremony venue will be a problem as it will be one day in the week for us + 6 guests. Need to sort out my reception venue though as its a saturday in July, so think it will be quite popular!
Id never thought about the credit card - great idea thankyou.
Just had a quick look at debenhams wedding insurance -£39, bargain!!
Oh sorry I thought you meant the reception would be on an off peak day. Saturdays are always busier, but I'd have thought you still had a bit of time yet unless it's a really popular venue. You could always look, register your interest and be asked to be kept updated if there are any more viewings or interest for your date?
£39 is nice and cheap! Whenever i've looked it's been around the £80 mark :o
Just be careful if you take anything out, as after reading the T&C for most, many will only cover up to 2 years and/or things booked after the insurance was taken out.
