Hey, just wondering what everyone is doing regarding mothers? is it supposed to be down to the bride and groom to buy their outfits for the day? I had heard a few people saying that they were buying their mothers outfits but i hadnt planned for that. is it the done thing? ?

I have not paid for my mum's- she has paid for mine!

Having said that we are paying for the dads suits hire, together with the rest of the groomsmen.

You dont have to, but if u have the budget and enough money to splurge to buy them something then i say do it, like a nice suprise and take them shopping, with me, my mum bought my dress and her and i bought my FH suit and my dads suit. so there no right way of doing things its just up to you Smiley smile

My Mom's outfit is more than mine - she'll be paying for it herself.

That said we have agreed to buy our Mom's wedding shoes as a Mothers day gift and bags as a birthday gift (should they wish to take us up on that one).

My mum bought her own, i was going to maybe get her hat or jewelrey but she got carried away on a shopping trip and bought it all in one trip!! Id love to have paid for her whole outfit but just cant afford it right now. We paid for all the mens suits as we bought instead of hired so they can keep them, but as my dad had to go get his at a different time (he works very unsociable hours) he just automatically paid for his himself when he went to try it on. We paid for the waistcoats, shirts and cravats but I would like to pay him back for the suit and also get my mum an extra special gift!

I've definitely not heard of it being a 'tradition' before. My mum went and bought hers without even mentioning to me that she'd seen something! It was only a month or so after we set the date and ages before I went trying on dresses! Bless her I think she was very excited! xxx

Our best man has actually paid for the suits for the 5 men which was fab so my dads suit is sorted. As for my mums she is buying it herself. I didnt think we were suppose to buy it for her Smiley atonished

No we are not. they have had plenty of notice, nearly two years to save for an outfit. Having said that, his mum hasnt started looking yet. Her and her partner said something about coming dressed as cow boys. I made the assumption that was a very bad joke!

Oh my goodness no. I have never heard of anyone buying their mothers' outfits! When I was growing up you would never pay for anything for your elders... it would be seen as incredibly cheeky and implying they couldn't look after themselves. (I mean dinners and clothes and whatnot... obviously if they really were in need you'd help them out.) My grandma still tries to give me money when I pick her up some MILK from the cornerstore! It's 45p, I can stretch to 45p!!! But she would see it as an incredible insult if I didn't take the money off her.

Depends on your budget and how much you like your mum to be honest I suppose - but if you buy MOB's outfit then I think it'd be rude not to buy MOG's too and it all just starts getting out of hand. I think we'll be paying for suit hire for all them men, but only to make sure they all match. If we weren't going for matching suits then we wouldn't be paying for the dads' either!
