Are you doing old, new, borrowed and blue???

MrsW-to-be, 3 October, 2013 at 15:17 Posted on Planning 0 17

I hadn't really thought about it and wasn't really that bothered but loads of people keep telling me that it's "traditional" and that I should.

The new is easy, the old I can probably sort, I have everything I need for the day so not sure what I would borrow and does blue toenails count???

Are you girls bothering with this?

    I definetly will be!

My something old is my veil - it was mums and my nan made it for her - something new my dress? - something blue will be a garter I expect - something borrowed maybe a piece of Jewlery or broach or something (broach could be onto my bouquet) - but thought it may be nice to have that part from H2B family?

    Yep I will be;

Old: My mum is cutting a bit of her wedding dress (the under skirt) for me to stitch in my dress.

Borrowed: My aunts veil, its 36 years old too.

    New: My dress.

Blue: Blue “I Do” crystals for the bottom of my shoes. Cheesy but good.

I'll be doing this too. I'm not sure what my "old" thing will be yet, my "new" could be anything I'm wearing on the day, "blue" will be my garter and "borrowed" is a bangle from my friend.

    Thanks for the replies ladies.

It's the borrowed I think I will struggle with as I have everything sorted - I might look in to one of those nappy pin things and pin it to the back of my bouquet.

I can do pretty much everything if I paint my toenails blue apart from the borrowed

I like the tradition and yes its fun but whats the sixpence in shoe? Ive not heard of that one before.

    Old .....do I count? lol

    New ....gorgeous new dress

Borrowed and Blue ....a blue diamond necklace I bought my daughter for her 18th birthday. (she has the earrings to go with it but she is not allowed them until her 21st so it would be rude of me to wear them before she does lol)

I dont do garters ? although my MiL2B keeps trying to talk me round

I think blue toenails are a great idea

So I'm struggling with this one and I do hope this doesn't come out all bride-zilla-ey.

OH's mum has asked to do one for me, she doesnt mind which but just need to let her know.

No-one else in the family (yet.. still 7 months to go) has offered anything and i feel a but rude asking 'anyone got a nice pearl necklace i can borrow'? I feel it's only right to accept a kind offer, not go round begging for things.

I've planned what I'm wearing meticulously and would quite like that to, nclude the jewellery, let's be honest, we've all been given a gift once in our lives that didnt suit, jewellery i think is still quite specfic to a persons taste, and so I don't really want to be put in the position of wearing something on the day that is a gift i cant say no to.... does this make sense?!

So I will be buying my earrings and necklace pre-wedding (as you all know i like to be organised anyway, so would hardly leave something like jewellery to chance in the hope someone gives me some!!)

So old : I want a locket on my bouquet with a picture in each side of both my grandparents wedding days photos.

New : everything i am wearing

Borrowed : no idea - maybe need to grow a pair and just ask my family if there is a pearl necklace floating around....

Blue : think this is the safest option to give oh's mum, what do you reckon. If you were sorting someone's 'blue' most people would go garter right? whatever it is it wont be something obvious, the blue is almost always hidden..

I have 1 thing that is covering all but the new part. My great Nan's Eternity ring, Its sapphire and Diamond and my mum has said for me to wear it, I think I might wear it on a necklace because we are having white and navy theme anyway.
