Are you doing your own make up on the day??

shoegal01, 5 March, 2009 at 09:43 Posted on Planning 0 22

I am in a bit of a dilema, i dont usually wear much make up literally just eyeliner and mascara and a bit of bronzer.

However i am in delibram (if thats the right word) as to whether to do my own make up or have it done by a professional.

What are you guys doing? who are you using and how much are they charging? anyone with any b4 and after pics??

thanks in advance

My friend is doing mine for me. She isn't a prof but she is very good and she will be at the wedding all day too so will be able to do touch-ups as needed.

If I didn't have her I probably would have done my own!!

Amhaving similar issues! I cant be bothered with make up but I do want to look amazing on the day! Was thinking of asking a friend to do it so she can retouch it throughout the day and just spending money on the actual products?

Maybe go to a counter, get them to do a free tester on you (or do at a wedding show) then buy the products and get your friend to do it on the day. that way you keep the makeup if you decide to forage into that scary world at another time! Smiley smile

    Good Luck!

    You're in a dilemma!

And I'm doing my own! Just a bit of advice, if you don't usually wear much, don't smother yourself in loads or you won't look like you!

    Just my opinion of course!

Misread your first post. You're deliberating. I think that's the word you mean.

I thought that we (Mum, BMs and me) would have a make up artist come to the hotel and do ours for us on the day but we had the trial and weren't that impressed to be honest. Not that it wasn't lovely when it was done, just that it didn't last all that long. When I do my own it seems to last longers so we are all doing our own now.

I don't wear a lot of make up but it was great to have a professional come and do my make up for the day. As long as you have a trial then you'll be fine. Also it makes a difference in the photos I think. I didn't have to touch my make up up all day - if I had done it myself I would have looked awful before I got up the aisle!

It just sort of lifted me for the day! The artist used Mac make up which felt lovely!

I always wear loads of make up, so will be fine doing it myself on the day, but am still going to go to a mac counter for a trial to see if they can do any better. will probably spend some money on some good brushes and a good foundation and take the stuff with me if i need it.

i did get a trial at bobbi brown counter which was free, but i didn't like it and it lasted about an hr and a half before i needed to touch it up.

top tip - if you do go for a trial, go for it in the morning, or whatever time you think you will be putting your make up on on the day so you can see how long it lasts.

Bluewater, thanks for the top tip - i am thinking about going to the Mac counter at selfridges at lunch to see what they can do in my lunch break - everyone is going to wonder what the hell is going on when i come back to work all glammed up!!

When you go to one of these dept stores for a trail are they free and what kind of thing do they put on you - can you request or do they do what they think is best?!?!

    Hiya,

I did price someone professional doing mine, it ranged from a £10 up to really high prices. My friend is doing my hair for me, and has offered to help with my make-up. Between us we will do it more than likely. She will be there all day for poofing the hair and touching up the make-up.

I have visted a number of counters, biggest advice get a good primer this will help with the foundation staying on. As others have said try different ones as some I tried on did not stay on long, but I have now gone back to Clinque, the foundation is lovely don't feel like I had it on it all lasted all day. Just need to get the brush next month.

Also some people recommend different ones, which did not suit my skin. As all skin types are different you will find with trial and error one which will suit. I wad dragging h2b around all the make-up counters ? asking questions etc.

But the best bit is I have now got some really good make-up for using afterwards as well.

mac quoted me £25 for a trial but is redeemable against purchases. the bobbi brown one was free (good job - i wasn't very pleased with it!)

i noticed if i mentioned i was getting married, i was asked to make an appt and book it and pay for it, whereas if you go along and ak for some help with a foundation, their advice is usually free!

Bluewater - will you be going to MAC in HoF at Bluey? If so try and ask for Luci Rogers. She done my makeup for a trial at the counter, then I booked her privately for on the day. It was £175 but well wel worth it. I got loads of freebies from her to help touch up during the day if I needed it. She's ace and lives locally too. Will try and did out some pictures.

I dont' wear a lot of make up either - just touche eclat for my bags and a bit of blusher and mascara, so I was a little concerned when my sister said she had booked for us to have our make up done for her wedding.

As I lived quite a distance away I didn't get to have a trial, but on the day the lady really put me at ease. She did my sister first and got talking while she was doing it and she said that if you don't feel comfortable in a lot of make up just wear a little and speak to your photographer. Photographers can work wonders with photoshop now they are taking digital pictures and if you have any blemishes or eye bags they can be wiped away in an instant.

I have a friend who is a photoshop whizz and he has touched up some of my photos and the difference is amazing.

    Susan.

I had a friend do mine for me, she'd studied beauty at college. TBH though i wish i'd have done it myself or got my sister to do it as when i look back at the pictures on most of them i can see that i have a white neck where she's not covered it properly.

I will be getting mine done for me, providing I like it/her work when I go for the trial. The hairdresser that I've been using for the past 3 or 4 years partners up with a make-up artist to when she does weddings, so I'll most probably be using her. Will just book in a trial and let her know what I want - if I don't like it I'll make my excuses and go elsewhere, but I'm sure she'll be great. Have heard good things about her plus I trust my hairdresser completely!

I've booked someone to come to the hotel to ours. It's costing £200 for me and the three bridesmaids plus an additional £50 for me to have a trial.

My sister got married a couple of years ago and she booked me in to have my makeup done. I never had a trial as she lives in Scotland and I was really worried. I wear quite a lot I would say and I really wanted to do my own, but I would have looked different from everyone else who were all having theirs done. In the end I was really pleased, it wasn't the colours I would have chosen but the photos were fab. I nipped upstairs during the day and touched up in my room with my own makeup.

I am definitely going to have my done for the wedding but with a trial first. The hotel I am getting married in has a package for £115 which includes hair and makeup both with trials and nail extensions or manicure ( and the makeup is clarins). I will probably buy some stuff from the clarins and touch up in my room during the day.

Yes I think I will be unless it gets to closer to the time and I have underspent in another area or something! My hair dresser is a friend of my OH though and will be coming to the wedding so I am hoping she might give me a discount - if so then I might go down the make up artist route as just one less thing to think about on the morning of the wedding.

I think I am pretty good at doing my own - as is my sister. My other BM doesn't wear much and I often do it for her before we go out - I am sure between my sister and I we can do her eye make up on the day.

I was planning to get someone to do it, but am now thinking I will do my own. When I registered our gist list (JL) they sent me a letter saying I could have a free makeup consultation at any of their counters, so think I may folow that up.
