Are you doing your own make up or having a make up artist?

shoegal01, 1 March, 2010 at 10:24 Posted on Planning 0 15

Decisions, Decisions.

Im not bad at doing my own make up but i want to look a bit more special on the day so i am thinking about having my make up done professionaly....plus i will be shaky mcshakeyson on the day and my eye liner will be all wobbly if i do it myself!

I have contacted a few make up artists and they have all suggested i hvae a trial a few months before the wedding but i want it now! I dont want to be caked in foundation as after a few glasses of wine i get all rosy and dont want to sweat the make up off! Plus i want the trial now because what if i hate what they do - i will need to spend the next 7 months practicing!!

Are you lot having a professional or doing your own?

If you are having a pro - any recomendations for London/SE make up artists?

I was going to have a make up artist do airbrush make up for me but since having to pay an extra £348 for my dress (still fuming over that!) i have decided to get my brothers girlfriend to do it (she is a qualified beautician though) we are going to the 'Benefit' make-up counter at a large boots store for a free make-up lesson on sunday to get ideas, i have already had one mini make over with them and bought a couple of products and love it. many of the big departments stores make up counters do these make up lessons and some also give out your free samples, it was my hairdresser that suggested this to me x

I'm doing mine & probably by BMs too. I'm by no means an expert but I figure I've been doing it to a standard I'm more than happy with for 20 years so what the hell! I had a make up trail at Estee Lauder & I looked awful! I'm using it as an excuse to splurge on lots of lovely Estee Lauder / Bobbi Bown / MAC goodies and on some Shu Uemura brushes too. If my hands are too shakey on the day then my hairdresser (who is a friend and coming to the wedding) also does make up so I am hoping she can help.

I'm getting my make up done professionally - same with hair! Just want to look extra nice and need all the help I can get! Its £50 which isnt too bad.

I've had a Chanel trial before you do it at their counter say in John Lewis and its only £20 which you can redeem against products - it was amazing and everyone commented but the make up was very subtle - no orange foundation in sight! You could always be sneaky and do this on the day if you have time or try and poach them to come to your house for like £30!

    Hey Shoey!

Hope you're well. I'm having Shona from the MAC counter in Selfridges London do my make-up. She said I can have the trial whenever I like but recommended it be July/ August. I used to work in cosmetics but I know I'll feel more confident having Shona do it as she's amaaaazing!

I'm having my make up done, mostly because i tend to get random spots and i'm not that good at covering them up myself and also i'm just not that good at doing my own make up.

    Hi,

I can't recommend anyone I'm afraid but if you want to have a trial now then that should be no problem to any makeup artist. I recommend Brides to have a trial 4-6 weeks before the wedding but have done trials up to a year in advance.

Still undecided - had a trial but hated it. Looked very 'made-up' more for an evening out than a summer wedding. Everyone says mine looks fine when I do it properly but might have a MAC trial and see how that goes.

I'll be doing my own. i'm quite good at it and im gonna leave myself plenty of time for shaky hand mistakes!! We dont have a lot of money now to spend before the big day so i dont want to spend unecessarily on trials i may/may not like.

...someone else will be putting my lashes on though, incase I glue my eyes together!!

I am getting a professional - mainly cos i am RUBBISH with my hair and usually have it down and i want it to be up on the day. also my makeup skills are erratic, some days i will be really happy with my look and other days i totally mess it up. so i want someone reliable! but if you are good at it and just want a natural look then it makes sense to save the money and do it yourself xx

I think Im going to do mine myself and spend the money I save on some nice new makeup.

I like the way I do my makeup and I dont think anyone else could make me look like me.

Ahh I am having my make up done (when I find someone). I am hoping by talking to people then I will get an idea of if the will be capable of doing what I want and also looking at portfolios.

If you want an early dry run I dont see why they wouldn't do that after all you are paying.
