Are you getting your bridesmaids a car to venue?

Misstd, 14 December, 2011 at 18:46 Posted on Planning 0 29

Hi everyone, I'm getting married at my parents house and then my venue is about a 20 minute journey, I am getting a vintage car for me and my dad but a large vintage car that matches (I don't really want a damier) to take my four bridesmaids and my mum and maybe brother is too money for my budget, so I don't know whether to just get them a posh taxi or ask friends with nice cars to take them? What is everyone else doing?

IMO posh cars are a bit of an indulgence so if I was trying to save a bit of extra dosh here and there (and who isn't!?) I'd just make sure that I provided something (be it a lift, a nice black cab or a ride in someone's porsche).

I'd just do posh taxi's...depending where you are they do white or red versions of your typical black cab which look pretty quirky for a wedding car and a lot cheaper

alternatively one thing we are looking at doing is getting 2 or 3 white fiat 500's with ribbons etc you could do something similar with beetles or mini's or another 'cute' car that you may be able to use from friends....if you have a couple or a few of them all polished up with ribbons on nobody is going to think you have done it to cut costs but probably just that your being quirky and unique!! We're not having cars as my bridesmaids and I will be travelling to the venue at 9am to get ready in the bridal suite.

If we were however, I would order executive taxis for the BMs rather than pay for a wedding car.

We're hiring a nice car for me and my dad and then my brother and sister-in-law are going to take my mum, bridesmaid, flower girl and page boy. They've both got nice cars and we'll put ribbon on them. I couldn't justify getting two more posh cars!

We are hiring a blue jag form the same people that are providing our vintage car for a fraction of the cost. Dont know if thats an option for you??

If not then you could try to borrow a nice car form a relative or try a chaufer driven merc or BMW as these will be less cost than a vintage.

We have got a car yes, we got a good deal with our 2 cars, But if budget is problem for you and cars are not as important then just get a nice taxi or something. They wouldnt be expecting anything fancy unless you have already told them They will just be glad that you asked them to be bridesmaids Smiley smile

Heehee our church is a 10 minute walk from our (mine and OH's) house, so I don't plan on getting the groom a car, the best man can drive him Smiley winking He can come in my car after we are man and wife and we nip off to the lakes for piccies (we live in the Lake District CSmiley smile

I only have two bridesmaids, do you think I could get away with having them in the car with me and my dad?

Our church is literally a 3 minute walk from the hotel we'll be staying at but it's uphill and I don't fancy the walk in my dress! There's a taxi rank literally right outside the hotel, so will send my dad out in the morning to book two taxis, one for my 2 BMs and my mum and another one for me and my dad.

I think a nice taxi would be fine, or a friend's car that's a bit more special (and clean!).

Thanks for getting back to me! Haven't booked anything yet I have seen a few companies now and was going to get a good deal on two cars but the inside of them were really tatty disgusting carpet and worn leather, I know it's meant to be vintage but the other companies were much nicer! (hence why more expensive!) I still don't know what to do bout it, a car is important for me and my dad and I would love to get the girls a car but other things are more important to me so would rather spend money somewhere else, have already got them some gorgeous swarovski earrings to go with dress! I would love the vw cars but it doesn't really go with my vintage theme lol!

My H and I were not that bothered about cars so we got a friend to drive me and my dad (and then me and H after the ceremony) in his nice Audi, and my BM's H took all the BMs in his 'normal' car.

I dont think you need to get a posh car for the BMs - after all it is just taking them from A to B - you'll want pics of you in a nice car but not sure pics of BM's in a nice car is a necessity iykwim?

Nope - they're going to have to walk to church and have been warned to get shoes suitable. Admittedly a car would take longer (one way system, Saturday traffic, I reckon about 15 minutes in the car) as the chuch is about 1 minutes walk (in trainers) from the hotel I'm getting ready in (wrong way down one way street obviously!). Given it would take me about 2-3 minutes to get in/out the car there is no way I'm going in a car!

    My MOH is driving! ?

She lives fairly close to our venue (ceremony and reception in one place) so we're staying at hers the night before and going to venue early in the morning to get ready in the bridal suite. My dad will meet us there when he arrives, and BM will drive himself and groom. No cars necessary, saving me a tidy sum!

I agree with the taxi idea.

My uncles & Dad have Audis and Mercedes so are using their cars. If not would have been an exective taxi.

My transport is for the full day, so it'll take my Bm's & OH's mum to the church then come back for me, my dad, MOH. I've hired a limo as a bit of a surprise for the OH to be picked up in, as he couldn't have all of his friends *he has 5 close friends* as best men, so they'll arrive as a surprise for him Smiley smile

then the wedding car will take us to the reception, and the limo will thake the BM's & other wedding party. x

Sometimes, when photographs are planned post ceremony (along with time for all the mingling), there can be enough time for a wedding car to do a couple of trips - one for the bridesmaids first, and then a return trip for the bride and groom. I recognise that the practicality of this depends on the distance to travel, traffic in the ares and the size of the wedding car hired. This is certainly something that we have done on quite a few occaisions, and it can work out a lot cheaper than hiring a second car. The suggestion of nice taxis in this thread is also a good idea. You may also have some guests with nice cars, that would be honoured to be asked to help with providing transport. Adding ribbons, flowers or hampers of champagne can make the journey extra special for your bridesmaids too. you could even arrange for a special music CD to be played for them!

Ah the hamper idea is brilliant, I think I will either ask a relative or have to get a posh taxi, the only trouble being my mum, she will prob have to jump in with me and my dad, I don't mind this but she doesn't like the idea as its not traditional (she hated the fact I didn't choose a church wedding)!

Mine are going in my car and so is the Groom - for £399 they will do as many trips as necessary so what we are doing is:

    - car picks up Groom, Best Man and Usher from the hotel they're staying at overnight and takes them to the venue;

    - then comes to my house for the 3 bridesmaids

    - then comes back for me and my mum

    - then returns at 1 am to the venue to take mum to hotel and me and OH to Bridal Suite at same hotel.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. Where are you getting ready? Did you really mean that you're getting married at your parent's house? Wow - that is very impressive!

We've booked 2 traditional style cars, 1 to take me and my dad and the other to take my mum & 3 BM's from home to church (30 mins) and then the BM's car will take them, my M and D from the church to reception (5 minutes) and the other car will take me and OH from church to reception with a bit of a detour so we get to spend a bit of time together and have a glass of champagne before the reception.
