Are you having rsvp cards?

*Mini*, 6 March, 2011 at 19:44 Posted on Planning 0 23

As the title says? Are you having them or did your guests send back thier "own" cards iykwim?

I know BB had some lovely ones she made on Vistaprint but I have now ordered our invites and the seller does not do RSVP cards. I could look on VP or is there anywhere else people have got them from?

Cheeky flashes are appreciated!

I made ours. Used a watermark photograph on cream card and then printed on top of it. Still only got a handful back so not sure if it was worth it but they looked nice ?

We are, mainly because we've got menu choices. But we're also giving guests the option of replying via our website.

We had RSVP cards which slotted into our pocketfolds. If I was doing it over again though, I would have used the card simply to convey more information, and done RSVP postcards on Vistaprint. With a free offer, you can get 100 for £4 which is such good value.

Couple of points to note though: the front side is glossy as standard, so unless you go for the linen finish, no-one will be able to write properly on the glossy side. Also, the 'back' (non-glossy) side comes in black-and-white, you have to pay extra for colour.

The reason I wanted RSVP cards was so I could "control" the information coming back... we asked people for dietary requirements and a song for the DJ. This way, people have an actual reminder if they do have dietary needs.

Yep- evening guests we got RSVP postcards made at vista print, so all they had to do was put on a stamp. Worked well, had LOADS back in the post!!

Yep we sent out RSVP's with all of our invitations. I'm sure that half of them won't be sent back to us but it made it feel like more of a complete pack.

It was just a simple 'we are able/unable...' and then 'do you have any special dietary requirements?'

Home made RSVP cards as a loose insert in the invitation pack, with stamped, pre-addressed envelope so there were no excuses not to send them back.

A week after our rsvp date we're still waiting for a quarter back... why do we have to chase so many people?

We plan to have postcard RSVP's as we need to know dietry requirements. I figured this may get invites back too as we will address them so all they have to do is stick on a stamp, no need for envelopes.

Ohhh AJ your making me worry! We dont even have our invites yet and your so organized!

If it helps we are not having the "pocketfold" type of invites so an RSVP car would be just loose in the envelope. Is that going to look odd?

We're not having pocketfold either and our RSVPs are just going in the back of the envelope, with our information brochure.

We didn't have pocketfolds either. Ours was a little A5 booklet, card cover and 2 sheets of A4 paper inside, stapled and folded, with the rsvp card and C6 envelope loose inserts. That way, nobody had to 'tear off' the rsvp so the pack, which contained maps, local accommodation and all the usual things remained complete.

We purposely had an early RSVP date so we had time to invite a second batch of people if we didn't hit our numbers, and because a lot of people are travelling some distance to be with us it gave them a chance to book flights etc - or indeed work out how much it would cost to be with us and if they could afford it in the time they had to save up.

I know tradition is 6-8 weeks before the date, but as with many other traditions that have no other real basis for existance, we chose to do things differently.

Don't panic. You aren't late or disorganised. Just working on a different time schedule to us Smiley smile

We're not having pocketfolds and each guest need to pick their meal so we're using the menu choices as reply cards in a way- I'm simply having the menu printed with space for the guests name and food choice- I figured if they pick their food then they will be there lol

I'm making my own along with the rest of my stationery. I'd love to have different reply cards back to keep as reminders but I also don't want the guests to have any excuse to not reply. I figure if I put them in they're more likely to send a reply. I'm sure i'll be chasing some people though.

Precisely my thinking. Obviously I don't know about your guests but as I said, we have several people from Scotland, and my mum's sister and family coming over from Spain, so we wanted to give them every chance to get the cheapest flight deals - plus, of course, for those coming not quite so far, things like the local Travelodge get better deals if you book early.

There's more than enough for us to think about during the last 6 weeks - final dress fittings, hair/makeup trials (ok so it doesn't affect me but still...), final logistics and checks etc, the last thing either of us felt like doing was chasing up 100 invitations on top of it.

I suppose, in the "good old days" when the bride's parents sent out and handled all the invitations, it wasn't something the bride and groom particularly needed to think about?

Yep were including RSVP cards which will ask for any dietary requirements & menu choices (we havnt decided whether were goin for Turkey & ham or choice of beef & salmon). They will come with an addressed envelope but I dont think were going to bother putting stamps on them.x

We included small RSVP cards in ours and got them all back from the day guests. I only had one other card and that was from a evening guest declining, she wrote a lovely long letter in it...

I didn't stamp them but put address labels on the envelopes...

My invites were late going out, not sent till end January with an RSVP of 11th February, we had to give final numbers to the venue on the 19th February, 4 weeks before the wedding.

The main ones we had trouble getting the RSVPs back from were close family because they assumed that we knew that they were coming!!!

Ours are just Vista postcard in the envolope - we didn't have pocketfold style either. I thought they looked at at first as we also have included a Vista fridge magnet with the wedding date and RSVP date - to encourage people to remember!

One thing I did do though was to number the RSVP cards on the back... I knew that some of my family would forget to write their names on them and I was right!!!

MrsC - I though about doing this, but it's very obvious it is required in that there is a dotted line where the name should be. TBH I think most of ours will be hand delivered back so it won't be too much of a problem as see 90% of our guests on a weekly basis anyway.
