Are you having table names or numbers?

excitedbridetobe2015, 4 February, 2014 at 11:33 Posted on Planning 0 31

I'm undecided what to do, I would like to have table names to make it personal to us. What are you doing? x

We're going for names! We're getting married by the seaside so have opted for holidays where we've been to the beach to make it a bit more personal - without sitting on the fence, I think numbers are just as good and you can do some really pretty things with them to include them with your centrepiece! Good luck with the choice!

I'd like to have names but would like to come up with an idea that's quite original as sometimes it can be a bit over done ... we're both really in to old films/musicals so was thinking about having names of famous romances; Satine & Christian, Rhett and Scarlett ... but then nothing else about our wedding is about films, so I may well scrap that idea and just have numbers!

I think this is a lovely idea and super original! Who cares if nothing else at your wedding is about films! If it's something you both love then i'd go for it tbh!

We are having a mini-moon in Paris, so have thought about using landmarks in Paris as table names, written in French. My theme is French inspired Vintage romance so would go well but not sure if it would be cheesy? What do you think? x

What a great mini moon! I'd go for this over numbers, it's also a good talking point for people around the table! x

What about rather than having landmarks (it's very usual to do landmarks as table numbers) what about just french words - 'Amour', 'Engager', 'Joie' etc etc ...

I like names and numbers. I think it's nice if you can have something quite relevant to you as a couple.

We are having types of Yorkshire brewed beers. We had considered types of coffee (OH's obsession) but we have lots of wine corks in our decor and decided coffee was a bit too random. The beers are because he does lots of home brewing and enjoys different types of beers and we now live in Yorkshire after growing up in the south and getting married in Gloucestershire and it has a slight link with the corks, being an alcoholic beverage!

Sometimes people don't go for numbers incase any hierarchy is implied by them. But you could still use numbers but ones that mean something to you, like.
Date you met and on the table number say something about that.
Your first house number and say a little about it, and so on.

That's a nice idea. I thought about naming places that we intend to visit on our mini-moon, romantic places rather than just common landmarks which people would be familiar with.

I also like the idea of having photos of the places in French vintage frames x

We are having names. We both work for the post office so are naming the tables after the surnames of Postman Pat characters.

We're having numbers simply because OH and I have quite different interests and he kept suggesting things I hated and I couldn't think of anything I wanted!

We had numbers - but non-consecutive ones. We basically picked 12 (number of tables) different ages, from 0 to 30 - and the table had a picture of us both at that age with a funny line about what we were doing.

It was a really fun ice breaker and we tried to match the age with the people on the table - so our uni friends were on table 19 etc!

I like your Paris idea - that would work really well. We're having towns/cities we've travelled to together and are putting photos of ourselves in each destination on the tables as well.

We're having names too. We thought about having numbers but as previously commented, the thought of family asking why they were table 8 and not 2 or 3 would just wind me up. So we're having Monopoly streets!!

We are having our favourite album titles as table names to fit with our vinyl record invitations. I have seen an ace table plan with album covers on that I am going to copy too!

We're having places on the monopoly board.

We chose this for a few reasons, we're from London, work in London, socialise in London and when we were younger, before we got engaged we went through a funny phase of collecting the special edition monopoly boards so it's fairly personal to us.

My OH is French so we are having a French themed table plan where the table numbers relate to the arrondissement where the most famous Parisian landmarks are found e.g 1 = Louvre 7 = La Tour Eiffel etc. Our friends had the landmarks and we didn't want to copy. Then for the place cards we making them look similar to the house number signs with names instead of numbers x

I like the idea of having tables named after places you have visited together or holidays you have had together as it means something to you both. My best friend had a Hollywood theme wedding and they named there tables after Hollywood films which was different. I defiantly think doing it around what means so etching to you both is lovely. good luck.

Me and my OH met at scouts so we are having knots as table names! We're having three 'tops table' - the true lovers knot table will be us and the parents, the family knot table will be my BM's (as they are my cousins) and the friendship knot will be the three best men (my OH's best friends)! We've just got the other 7 tables to come up with knots names for!

    xx
