Are you offended by swearing

Spring, 7 April, 2008 at 16:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 37

Or just certain swear words? I'm not that bothered by it but don't swear a lot myself. I would never use the 'C' word though.

General swearing doesn't offend me at all. Swearing at someone, especially children, does offend me ? (e.g. 'fuck' is fine, 'you fucker' isn't, if it's said aggressively)

It depends I guess. I'm not offended by the words themselves, but would be if someone was swearing at me iyswim? So the intent behind them rather than the words themselves.

I had a temp in the other week who made it clear from the off she didn't like swearing, so I made a concious effort not to and byyyyy fuck it was difficult! I didn't realise a) how much I swore and b) how much it helps ?

I'm offended by people who seem incapable of talking without swearing every other word - particularly when there's no need. I see using swear words as a matter of emphasis and emotion, not just to tell a f*cking story.

Context is everything, but I'd feel the day had been a failure without saying cunt at least twice.

I'm not at all bothered by swearing and I swear fluently. Sometimes 'oh bother' just doesn't cut it. I probably ought to have more regard to where and when I say words like "cuntchops" or "cockhead".

I'm not offended at all by swearing though if someone called me fat I'd be raging ?

I do think it's off to swear a lot and loudly in a restaurant or something especially if there are children about though

What do you think if you hear someone on the phone or in public (not around children) swearing in a normal conversation?

Actually, thinking about it, rather worse than that was the other morning on the way to nursery, she said "mummy, I want a cigarette please". ? Oh dear, perhaps time to quit the 20-a-day habit??

I like swearing, when necessary or amusing, but not as punctuation or around kids.

There is nothing more satisfying than a good ol' swear, especially on Friday night when I slipped off a step and sprained my ankle. The air was fucking blue!

I love cunt as a word, so satisfying to say, but my all time favourites are the pretty tame "monkeyknackers" or "big dog's cock"

<Mary Whitehouse> I don't particularly like swearing, I think there are far better words you can use. I don't really like the overuse of it on TV. <Mary Whitehouse> [:I]

I would swear in front of my OH (or at him, he likes it ?), certain friends, the ILs but never my own Mum and Dad, at work, where I didn't know everyone well or in public.

The rules on swearing are complex ?

I'm not offended by it, I just dislike it when it is used uneccesarily or in front of children.

I love swearing and I swear way too much, my ex hated it (which made me do it more ?).

I don't really swear at home though in front of my parents and would never ever swear in front of my grandad, and children too.

It depends on the context with me.

I don't get offended by most stand up comics if they swear or by some artists (Pink). I also don't mind swearing if it's to emphasise an emotion. If you want to tell someone to "Go Away" but with ooomph and perfect clarity, "Fück off!" with a bit of gusto behind it, is the only appropriate phrase to use. And it's international too! ?

But I can't stand it thrown in randomly in general conversation. All it does is make the sentences longer and a bit boring. I also don't like it in name calling. Even if I think someone really is a cünt, I can't bring myself to use it.
