My friend Killa came up with this ridiculous equation below in an attempt to make me laugh during my wedding mania - please don’t actually take this as solid advice.
There is an equation you can apply to see if you are becoming a bridezilla.
At the start of the process ie: the week you set the date you need to calculate the following:
1Number of things on your to do list (minus) Number of weeks to the wedding
2.)Subtract 60% of that number. (60% is the minimum that any bride should expect to have to plan herself). The result needs to be divided by the number of bridesmaids. (**Note this equation is invalid of you have more than 6 bridesmaids. If you have more than 6, you automatically get 75 as your bridezilla base)
3.)Add the number of mothers, or future mothers-in-law. If either of them is over 60, has been married more than twice or the groom is an only child add 5.
That number is your Bridezilla Base.
An example:
K has 125 things on the to do list, and 25 weeks to the wedding. She has two bridesmaids and both mothers are around, have been married once and the groom has a brother and a sister.
[{(125 – 25) – 60% }/ 1] +2 = 22
K’s bridezilla base is 22.
With the base of 22 you start adding:
· Number of venues looked at. (if more than 10, add the base number.)
· Number of dresses actually ordered and then changed. (You order, change your mind, order change your mind etc.) If more than four, add the base again. Dresses tried on but not ordered do not count.
· Number of courses at the reception.
· Number of forks on table at start multiplied by the number of speeches you want given.
· Number of rows with florist over design (if more than three or if you change florists less than a month before the wedding because you don’t agree, add the base.)
· Photographer: If a friend of the family, subtract 10, if actual family member and you do not fight, subtract 20. If Annie Lebowitz or similar, or if you are spending more than 25% of your budget, add twice the base.
· Budget: If less than £5,000 subtract half the base. Between £10,000 and £15,000 add the base. If greater than combined salary of bride and groom, add double the base.
· Children: if you specify a child free wedding and have no children of your own, and no immediate nieces or nephews, and no children belonging to the wedding party, add nothing. This is fine. If you have children, or any of the wedding party have children and they would be banned, add the base.
· Fights: Number of fights with maid of honour / bridesmaid or mother / mother in law. If more than 10 weeks before the wedding, add 1. For every week closer to the wedding that occurs (after the ten week barrier) add 2. ie: a fight three weeks before the wedding gets 15 – 1 for the fight and 14 for being inside the 10 week barrier. ****Note: if the bridesmaid or maid of honour is a BLOOD relation and the fight is about something other than the wedding add nothing.
· If bridesmaid is blood relation and makes disparaging remarks about groom or groom’s family, at any stage, SUBTRACT the base from your total.
If you are not over 250 yet, congratulations. You are not a Bridezilla. If you are less than twice your base, you are lying about something. if you are over 250, you need to sit down, take a stress pill and write some apologies.
