I give in - I have absolutely no idea what to get the Baroness for Christmas. Budget is under £50 (why did I agree to that ?). No jewellery as she had diamond studs for her birthday, no makeup and no clothes (I'll just get that wrong). She had ballet tickets last year so that's out too. Help! And...

Help! And apologies in advance for dismissing all your very sensible suggestions for seemingly spurious reasons ?

Make her think she's lost her earrings then replace them? You look really thoughtful and it hasn't actually cost you anymore than you've already spent.

Get her SUP lessons. Everyone's doing it.

Im glad my cash idea was of use - H is giving me £100 towards my new iPod touch as I chose the most expensive one. There was nothing else I really needed/wanted, so it seemed the perfect solution.

    Cashmere V-neck. Ungetwrongable.

Beautiful leather or silk-bound photo album.

    Nice pen.

Underwear eg Myla, if she's bored of AP.

I still have one running for Living Etc that I gave her 3 years ago. Turned out to be more expensive than I thought ?

Anyway, don't give up yet people! You've all just proven what a caring, thoughtful and generous husband I am ?

I like all 4 of your ideas, especially the first two. Would you like to become my personal gift shopper? The pay's rubbish but you get real job satisfaction from my reducing stress levels.

    Thank you! ?

this is the nail set incase it's still in the running although I didn't get it from QVC, I found it elsewhere cheaper. They have lots of good sets on that site though, i'd be happy with their stuff. Comes nicely boxed aswell.

See, I knew we'd get there in the end. More good ideas - particularly the orange/lemon tree. ?

    A new toothbrush.

I've just got one of these and it's brilliant.

Probably not the most romantic Christmas present ever, but her teeth & gums will thank you!

What about a taster day course in soft furnishings or colour therapy/mood board or pottery, that way if she enjoys it you end up at a later date (birthday etc) buying her the full course and you haven't got to come up with another idea.

That's an excellent idea although she's planning something like that for her and her mum later this year so sadly that idea has gone too.

OI, toad! I mentioned cashmere first, and I only refrained from putting jumper because you said no clothes. <kicks Baron in the shin. hard.)

    Ok, you win ?

Actually that's the idea I'm liking most as most cashmere jumpers are classic designs, so not much to go wrong. Any suggestions as to where's best to buy? John Lewis looks pretty good...any others?

Ahem, did you read my response. I've told you exactly where to go to get a two ply cashmere jumper within your budget. All sorts of shapes and colours available too.

Cheers POD. No Uniqlo near us as they closed it a couple of years ago (shame, I liked it far more than Gap for basics).

If Mrs BGB, fancies a pottery course, I have a client who does great one, he is a painter too so his courses cover colour etc and she could top her weekend off with a day a Steins cookery school. Give me a shout if they decide on a weekend course, I did the pottery in the summer and it was lovely, it's a lovely spot right on the camel trail next to the river, very relaxing. I am still rubbish at pottery though..

If she's into interior design, would she like a really gorgeous coffee-table-type book about (whatever style she is into) interiors? Plus maybe a vase/bowl in similar style? Apart from that, the cashmere idea is a good one, although if she has skin like mine cashmere is like wearing a hair shirt.

I know you said she has a bottle of perfume from her birthday still, but I have day and evening perfumes (a few of each so I can mix it up a bit - woo!), so what about this set here (to match her pants 😄 )

Or this would be a fab treat too

Is cashmere popular then? It sounds a bit 'classic' (read old) to me

Have to admit, I'd be pretty underwhelmed with a jumper, no matter how soft it was.

I just got a 'touch of cashmere' jumper from the Principles sale - it was £29 (cheaper than that with the VAT reduction actually) and its machine washable. I am such a sensible tame mum! However it is a v nice jumper with plunging v neck and buttoned cuffs.

Surely it's the style that makes something old, not the fabric?

You make me sound like Barbie FFS ? I wear jumpers obviously, but I was thinking that cashmere jumpers are the kind you'd wear a shirt under, and that's a bit Sloaney / PR luvvy IMHO ? I would love cashmere socks. And I have some fab cashmere armwarmers from Brora.

I see it the other way round, Flump- I always think of cashmere jumpers as being those you wear nothing under because it's so much less scratchy than lambswool.
