Argh help!!! Beauty disaster!

BrogstarBride, 29 April, 2013 at 19:44 Posted on Planning 0 19

So I have been getting my self ready for the big day making sure my skin is good, drinking plenty of water moisturising etc. I have also been using Veet waxing strips to wax my fuzz off my top lip! I've been getting on fine with it, apart from the odd break out after waxing but I'm guessing this is due to the nature of waxing its quite harsh lol But last night I had a disaster! I waxed my upper lip as usual and went over it a few times because I didn't get all the hairs, and I ripped half my skin off my top lip!! Apart from the fact it looks ridiculous, is really sore, I can't risk this happeneing the day or week before the wedding! Any one got any ideas on why this might have happened or had a similar experience? And any waxing tips in general? I thought about using hair removal bit it grows back really quick Smiley sad

I had that when I tried to wax my armpit - only tried it the once!!

I think it's when you don't pull the skin tight enough before ripping off the strip Smiley sad might be worth paying for a professional to do it for you just before you get married.

Ouch!!! I always seem to get a few pimples after. I have had it treated before, which wasn't too bad but for the big day, I'm going to the salon to get it done properly. Perhaps, go once your lip is better to be sure that you'll feel fine having it done just before the big day. Hope it heals really quick, sounds ultra painful!!!

How about trying threading - a lot less painfull and, well in my case, just a slight red mark. And it lasts well - if you had it done two days before then the redness would be gone for sure

Could you not just bleach your fuzz?

That's the problem! They normally say do each area once. I know from experience that I can get away with 2 or 3 times on one area but more than that and I come up in a hideous red rash that then turns all scabby. It honestly took me a couple of times doing this before I realised it was because I'd basically ripped the top layer of skin off, it didn't really hurt at the time!! I found that sudocrem helped it heal pretty quickly and then lots of moisturiser once the scabby bits had gone!

If you've used the wax before then you should be fine just don't go back over the areas until a day or 2 later. Also as mentioned stretching the skin fully helps get the best result and avoid re-dos.

I was told to put talc on the skin before waxing & try only waxing the area the once. If you need to go over it, put more talc on beforehand.

Depending when the wedding is, have you thought of laser treatment for a permanent solution?

I'd not risk going to a salon for the first time before the wedding, even if you have been ok (apart from this incident) waxing at home, it will be a different wax, you may take a reaction to it or may be burnt by the wax (as happened to my friend before her wedding).

Threading is definately the way to go, as others have said! removes all the hairs, even the tiny little fine ones that waxing doesn't. I find it less painful than waxing, but it lasts longer! Will sting and your eyes will water, but it's worth it. Area will only be red for a day at the most, and no wax to irritate the skin, and no pulling.

Ahhhh ouch sounds painful! Yes, over waxing is the issue, and also towards nearer your wedding day perhaps go to a professional for peace of mind?

I only have mine done professionally. I wouldn't trust myself! It always looks like a plucked chicken immediately after, and a few days later I will often get a tiny pimple. But really not much at all. I'd go for a pro job.....having I've not had threading, so if that works do that.

Alternatively, you could wax your own the week before....and then just keep on top of it each day with tweezers. And that way you have nothing to worry about. I hardly have mine waxed now as I've had it done so often I can pluck what's needed! Lovely :-)

I got wax burn on my eyebrows once from going over it too many times, used pure aloe vera gel to sooth it and it really helped, not sure if it would if you've taken the skin off though... I stick with tweezing on my face and epilating other places now because my hairs really are stubborn little buggers.

I would get it done in a salon, it will only be £5/£6.

Either go and see a beauty therapist to get this done. or for the Top lip use Boots or Nair Facial cream it works wonders!

I used to get my top lip waxed but now I use Nair cream - it's a lot less painful and more effective for getting rid of all the hairs I find. Cheaper too I think, because even if you use it more a pot lasts a while

If it was strips you used and not real wax then you've ripped it off wrong (which is what it sounds like anyway as you didnt get the hairs). It could be that you've done the same area twice but it's not very likely unless again, you've used real wax.

I used to run a beauty salon and I've heard so many horror stories of salons doing this if they dont rip off correctly, the wax is too hot or very occasionally the are has been done too many times with wax that's a bit too hot... some people can cope with lip on same area twice but it's a risk.

I used to own a beauty salon and i'm fully qualified , as others have mentioned the problem is you have gone over the area too many times , on the upper lip you should only go over the area once ( do in smaller sections to get all the hairs ) if there are any left over you can tweeze them , or others have suggestion go to a professional and have threading , this is very risk free as theres nothing other than the aloe vera that you can react to and you can get all the hairs , I would't recommend you get waxed professionally before the wedding as you do not know how you will react to the wax

so yeh threading def your safest bet before the wedding

    Hope that helps

Ps - use ethier aloe veragel or acrisor sudacreme cream on the affected area until it heals up and try not to put make up on it Smiley smile

Me again sorry , just a note to say I know some people have suggested hair removal creams , i really wouldn't recommend using these although they are affective for removing the hair even the sensitive ones can thin the skin and also burn it , it can also snap the hairs causing them to be damaged at the follicle which can cause them to ingrow or grow back thicker or cause an infection in the follicle ( you can also do this by not waxing or threading correctly aswell) x
