Argh! Help me with colours please!

HLT, 19 May, 2012 at 22:56 Posted on Planning 0 15

I've been stressing over this for a while but I think we are nearly there... Our wedding party (males), apart from my dad will be wearing kilts. OH wanted his two best men to wear their own tartan but I'm concerned about how this is all going to fit together. Basically, OH is wearing his own tartan and a cravat to match the colour of the BM dresses (I though this was how it was meant to be done - think I got that wrong?) but his best men cannot wear the same cravat as the colour will clash with the colours of their tartans so we are proposing they should wear black? OHs father (FOG) is wearing a different tartan to OH (he will be hiring and the tartan OH is wearing is made to measure only) so he ould prhaps wear the same colour cravat as OH or black to match the other men? And what about my dad? He can wear either colour but what would work best?

Sorry it's complicated but hoping someone can help?

Ok..sorry but I'm a little lost here ( might be the wine lol )

Who is wearing black ? bridesmaids or is it cravat colour ?

or are you proposing your OH wears a cravat that matches the bridesmaids and the other men wear black cravats ???

I think that if the other men can't wear bridesmaid colour cravats then only the groom wears it so that he stands out. Sounds like you're having a crazy time of it so do what is easy!

    good luck

You girls did well to understand me because reading that back, even I'm confused!! As it stands OH is wearing a blue cravat (matching the BMs) and we are thinking the two best men would be better off wearing black cravats (the blue wouldn't go with their kilts) but what about my dad and OHs dad? What colour cravat should they both wear? Blue like OH and the BMs or black like the best men? Thanks!! X

I'm not sure the fob/fog have to match either but I'm inclined to think they should go with the black as its "normal" for the groom to stand out from the other men.

Okay, thank you Smiley smile. Is black okay for a wedding though? It seems the best, most neutral colour!

Funny you should post this cos i am having a similar dilema!! I think your FOg & FOB should wear black so that your OH stands out from the rest of the guys.

In return can you help me with mine?!?! My dilema is around having a groom who's favourite colour is red but chief bridesmaid is a ginger and refuses to wear red! Compromise is bridesmaids wearing dark green, groom and best man and woman wearing black with red accents, ushers and FOB/FOG wearing wearing black with dark green accents. Oh and i'm wearing ivory! To tie it together i thought of ivory flowers for everyone except me and my OH who will have red flowers. Does that shound sensible?!?!?

Thanks!!! Will black look okay on my dad though (not a scot therefore in a suit).. It's helpful having a scot on the topic Smiley laugh.

And yes, I definitely think that works.

Again yes i don't see a problem with him wearing black , maybe he could have a blue pocket handkerchief since he doesn't have a kilt for it to clash with ?

Or what about your dad matching you?

I was bridesmaid at my best mates wedding where everyone wore different colours - it was a bit crazy, but at the same time it meant there was no stress at all - bridesmaids wore midnight blue dresses with coloured accents (shocking pink, lilac and acid green) groom wore a midnight blue tie, BM wore shocking pink tie, FOB wore ivory tie, FOG wore green tie, ushers wore lilac, acid green, pale blue and yellow! The flowers were wild flowers so they picked out all the colours everyone was wearing!! Sounds crazy but it really worked, so you could always get the men to pick a colour which goes with their tartan and just all wear different?!? Just to throw that out there!! What colour flowers are you having??

I did think about that but was concerned it wasva bit "groomy"! I've only ever seen the groom wearing Ivory, otherwise that could work!

I like the idea of all the different colours too. Thanks!

Flowers sound very similar to mine - good choice hehehe!! I am sure you will find the right colours. I ended up getting a sketch book and doing a sketch (very badly - i am no artist so it was just black blocks for the men with the colours on them and coloured blocks for ladies) of the formal photos we hope to have so i could look at the colours for flowers and ties together and in the order they would be next to each other to see if it matched - it helped me to visualise it, and then i put the best suggestion i came up with to you ladies and you have made me feel better about it!!! Might be worth a try if you are really struggling!!!

Haha snap! Oh has already done. PowerPoint mock up of the bridal party, but that was at the very start and things have changed since then. Perhaps we should revisit it!
