My little sister was rushed to hospital this afternoon with suspected appendicitis. My mum text me at 4.30pm saying she had been taken in and not to worry, so I rushed to the hospital with my dad to see her. Apparently when she was taken in she was screaming with a pain in her left side, feeling nauseous etc. She was given morphine up her nose (weird, I know!) and when I finally got to her she was slightly calmer if a bit spaced out. The surgeon came to see her and he is unsure but was throwing ideas in the air such as appendicitis or an ovarian cyst that could have burst. He's keeping her in for observation tonight to note any changes in pain level and tomorrow they may be doing an ultrasound on her tummy. She seemed OK when i was there but because of the morphine she was totally away with the faries, she kept going on about how all she wanted was a strawberry fruit pastille! It's only a month since my mum was in for an operation, I'm starting to think we should have a season ticket for that ruddy hospital!!
***UPDATE***
Well she was allowed to come home the next evening after being in for observation. The doctor said that as there were no other indications to point towards appendicitis and since the pain was slightly lessening he thinks it was a cyst rupturing on her ovary. The poor lamb is in a bit of a state because she had to miss her first day of high school today and he has advised that she stay off until monday at the least. She has been bedridden all day and hasn't eaten much but she looks a lot better than when I saw her in the hospital. Apparently cysts rupturing on the ovaries are common in her age group and they just go away on their own. We will be keeping a close eye on her for the now and has been granted 24/7 access to the ward if she needs it which is good to know but fingers crossed this is the end of it.
