Army patrol at wedding!

docshell, 9 March, 2009 at 17:11 Posted on Planning 0 4

Due to the awful event at the weekend in NI- h2b phoned security team in RAF and explained we are getting married in NI in 75 days and he was planning on wearing his RAF uniform and now we have to have an army patrol at the hotel entrance!

Don't mean to sound ungrateful that they could save our lives if needed but I really think this is OTT and they could be best used somewhere else- we don't live in NI so who is going to know we are there apart from Stenna ferries and the hotel and 50 guests whom are all involved in RAF or NI police so know what not to say to people.

Its going to be like James bond with secret hand shakes and passwords for the guests so they can even enter the grounds- I guess thats one way i can keep out the relatives i don't want!

Hmm not really sure what to think of this:

1 side of me says - surely the safety of your wedding guests (the most important people to you in the world) is the main thing and you should be grateful for the extra satey and precautions the RAF are taking..................

1 side says - I completely understand your reservations.

    Not much help am I??

I wouldn't worry about it to be honest and would take what security you can.

I have friends who had to have police searches done before the wedding and this wasn't anywhere near NI (to do with their ranks)

and our wedding at a hotel happened to coincide with a memorial march of some sort (again nowhere near NI) and the armed police and forces were using our hotel as their headquarters. so there I was off to the hairdressers in the morning with men with sniffer dogs and guns wandering around everywhere. Our guests had to follow diversions etc.

Men in uniform....hmmmmm....CAN I COME TO YOUR WEDDING?!?!? ?

In all seriousness I can sort of see where your h2b is coming from, thanks to the stupidity of some people you need to be careful and take all the precautions available to you...just think yourself as royalty for the day ?

    Hi Docshell,

As someone who has lived in NI all her life & just having heard that another police officer has just been shot dead in the last hour...I would not begrudge your wedding that extra security. Although it is highly unlikely anything would happen, there are a minority of selfish cruel people out there that seem intent on making their mark. Starting to get shivers about all of this.

Another northern ireland girl here and frankly, i would either take the security or not have anyone there in uniform unless the wedding is in a barracks.

I def wouldnt feel comfortable in a hotel venue with hubby in uniform. not with what is happening at the minute.
