Artificial v Real flowers

Blondie28, 31 May, 2012 at 12:34 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hi All

What is the general concensus with regards to real versus artificial flowers?

I'm going to have fresh flowers for my bouquet but i'm wondering whether it's worth getting artificial bouquets for my bridesmaids. I've had a look on ebay and there seem to be some quite nice examples of artificial ones.

Has anyone gone this way with their flowers and what did you think when you recieved them?

The past couple of times i've been a bridesmaid i've had artificial flowers and i've always thought it was a nice touch that i could keep them afterwards as sort of a keepsake.

I had artificial and no one really noticed the difference!

I love the fact that they are still on my bedside table!

I've got artificial flowers too - one less thing to worry about on the day!

I've recently mentioned to a few people that I was considering having artificial ones and the reactions have been quite negative which I found disappointing so I'll keep an eye on this post.

I had an artificial bouquet and the bridesmaids had the same. I had my bouquet made by the rather fabulous Rainbow Florist, who is a HIB on here. It was a last minute panick because the one i'd seen and ordered on EBAY came back as purple instead of the deep red i wanted.

The were so realistic looking that the photographer didn't realise they artificial. I went to sit them down for the photo with the register and he asked me to watch in case the ends of the flowers were still wet... i was confused until i realised what he was talking about.

This is mine i made the same but smaller for my bridesmaids and also added these to our range of products in store and on ebay as i love them so much Smiley laugh

my opinion - real flowers, beautiful but way to expensive for something that will die

my bouquet takes pride of place in our shop Smiley laugh

Rainbow Florist always gets rave reviews on here - I had real flowers but I'd definitely have used her if I'd decided to go artificial.

I'm in the real flowers camp. You dont get the smell with the artificial no matter how nice they look.

I'm going artificial, because I'm getting married in Spain and it's a lot easier to transport artificial flowers than either take real ones or source them there from a distance!

I have had a couple of sample corsages sent to me already, and they're fabulous!

As for the smell, I agree to some extent, although lots of flowers don't smell anyway. I'm thinking of having tubs of herbs around for fragrance (mint, basil etc) because I love to cook and it seems really fitting that there should be some of that incorporated in the day.

I'm with Trickers on this. I'm having lots of freesias in my flowers as they were the flowers my Dad bought for me when I was born and also because they smell divine and I can't wait to enter the church and smelling that lovely heady flower scent!! ?

I am having artificial as apparently it can be quite hard to ensure all sunflowers are the shade I wanted, plus it was far more cost effective to go with silk flowers than real.

I had artificial, mainly because it worked out cheaper on the budget, my mum and a family friend made the bouquets. I was able to keep my bouquet for a long time afterwards. The fact it didnt smell really didnt bother me at all.

Well after reading everyones comments i think i'm definitely leaning towards artificial for my bridesmaids and i'll treat myself to a "real" bouquet i think.

Next thing is to decide whether i have real flowers around the room or artificial. If artificial i'm thinking i could buy scented candles to fragrance the room

I am having real. I don't like artificial flowers - I know it sounds strange, but I find them a bit depressing. Also, I would never, ever display them in my house (dusty, fake flowers, and they would be dusty in my house as I am slatternly cow - reminds me of Miss Havisham) so there wouldn't be much point in being able to keep them anyway.

I'm having real, I love flowers so wouldn't want it any other way. Although artificial flowers can be just as beautiful, it just wouldn't be the same for me.

I'm having artificial they are all done in a covered box tucked away, ready for my wedding in September. I love real flowers but my mum did mine and shes was not going to be doing them the day before my wedding.
