Artificial wedding flowers

loobylou2801, 3 February, 2013 at 21:55 Posted on Planning 0 8

For many reasons, we have decided to go with artificial wedding flowers for myself, flower girl and button holes. I have an idea of what I want but haven't been able to find anything ready made that fits the bill. I have contemplated having a go at making my own, I think it would be a nice, personal touch and also we are on a budget so may work out cheaper!

Has anyone made their own bridal flowers and have any tips? Or can anyone recommend a good site/ supplier that will make what we want reasonably cheaply?

I feel like I'm stuck and can't move forward with my planning until I have the flowers sorted.

Hi and welcome to Hitched. Most florists can do bespoke designs to your wishes if you send them an idea of what you would like. If doesn't really matter if you can't find a picture of a bouquet with the flowers in that you want. Just look for styles and shapes you like and your florist will be able to advise which flowers will work with that particular design. If you prefer to make your own, you can purchase artificial flowers on line or, if you prefer to see them beforehand, try large garden centres in your area. Larger garden centres generally carry a wide range of quality artificial flowers.

    Hi,

I made all the bouquets and table flowers for my daughter`s wedding and bought red silk roses from a wholesaler, who were very helpful. They are called Village green.

    Hope that helps,

Contact me if you need any help as my daughter was thrilled with hers,

    Lynne

Do you have any flowers you particularly like? Or a theme to your wedding. If you let me know the sort of colours or styles your looking for I can help you with suitable options, whether making them yourself or providing you with a quote.

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

We're wanting to go with sunflowers with possibly red with it too but can't seem to find anywhere that sell artificial sunflowers. I'm not fazed by the thought of making my own flowers, just don't know where to start with getting supplies!

Tried to attach a photo but can't work out how to?

Unfortunately, there is a shortage at the moment of the most realistic artificial sunflowers. The ones that were considered to be the best quality have been discontinued for some reason - probably because the manufacturer has gone bust but can't be 100% certain of this but this is usually the case. The ones that are available are more orangey than yellow so you may find it difficult to find some unless another manufacturer comes up with something as good as the original!

Thanks for that, may have to reconsider then as we weren't really keen on the orangey types. Have seem some nice bouquets with yellow and red roses so that may be an option.

Do you have any recommendations for flowers for an early September wedding?

I have attached a photo of the sunflowers we use which may be of a suitable shade for you, they are a mid yellow tone. Yellow gerberas could also be a possibility?

I didn't want real flowers but found that artificial ones didn't look very realistic. Then I found this site

    http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/feather-bouquetsflowers-tutorial

The feathers were really cheap from Amazon and you can choose a wide range of colours and flower middles.

Now I've made all my feather 'flowers' and just need a bouquet holder to put them all in.

Hi - sorry, just seen this as I haven't had much chance to come on here this last week. One of the benefits of artificial flowers is that you aren't restricted by seasonal availability as is the case with fresh flowers so flowers are available all year round. There are lots of artificial yellow flowers available but there are varying shades of yellow within the range. The same applies to red too. Artificial flowers tend to follow the trend of fresh flowers and, at the moment, the emphasis is on shaded/tinted/muted ranges rather than on solid colours. This is great for giving a country/vintage look but not so good if you have set your heart on one shade of solid colour!

If you Google 'availability of flowers in September in yellow' this will throw up a list of what's available if you want to go for seasonal or, alternatively, Google for images of bridal bouquets in yellow which will give you a few ideas. Any fresh bouquet can be replicated in artificial flowers. The only two yellow artificial flowers that are difficult to obtain in yellow at the moment are the sunflowers as mentioned and gerbera which is available in yellow but has an orange centre. If you want a few more ideas, there's lots on my website together with prices. Although I did many yellow sunflower weddings last year, because they aren't available anymore, I've had to remove those from my site Smiley sad Pity, I do hope they come up with a good alternative soon! Hope that helps.
