Asking Bridesmaids?

DovahQueen, 8 June, 2014 at 17:09 Posted on Planning 0 26

I'm just wondering how other people asks friends to be bridesmaids? I'm out of ideas and wondering if anyone did anything unique/special?

God, I'm so rubbish at this being a bride to be thing! I don't know if I even asked them - just showed them the dresses I was looking at for them! I figured it was a given they would be as they are my baby sisters! Lol

I gave mine a 'will you be my bridesmaid?' card that I found on ebay and I wrote quite a long letter inside telling her how much it would mean to me. She already knew she would be my MOH but I wanted to make it official and give her a keepsake.

I had always planned to do something nice, but it didn't happen as I was just too excited and blurted it out!

My idea was from pinterest... I'd seen a porcelain macaron box with a "will you be my bridesmaid" note written inside... a bit like a fortune cookie!

I did something different for my maid of honour and my bridesmaids.

For my maid of honour, I did a miniature message in a bottle. And the message inside was a poem that asked her to be maid of honour! And my bridesmaid, I found a woman online who makes small wooden hearts personalised with ribbon and wording and put their name on the front along with 'will you be my bridesmaid?'. They all loved them! And it's something personal for them to keep :-)

Mine rather forestalled the question by essentially responding to my engagement announcement asking when we were starting planning!

If we didn't see each other all the time, I suspect it would have been somewhat different, and I would probably have announced my engagement to them and asked at the same time, using rings - "I've just got a rather special ring, so here's one for you too - will you be my bridesmaid?"

I don't really know why it's posted upside down.. I had compact mirrors engraved, they were really cheap too. All my girls loved them. X

I just called her up after we got engaged before we'd announced it to anyone else. Just said "Hey, will you be my bridesmaid?"

That's kind of how we are though, a message in a bottle or something else cute would have just made us both laugh hysterically!

I have no bridesmaids just two witnesses for our wedding in Lapland. I had a friend make me a card and wrote this inside to make a sort of invitation thing for her. I like a good story lol. Never done this before so hope it works...

I simply put the question in a text message, she didn't know we had got engaged so it was a surprise!

I sent my cousins a letter each on nice notepaper asking them what they were up to, how the summer holidays were going, telling them about early wedding plans, and finally asking them if they wanted to be my bridesmaids. I thought about doing something elaborate or at least waiting until we could go out for dinner to ask my MoH, but I couldn't wait and texted her saying 'f*** it, will you be my bridesmaid?'

I didn't do anything too special. It was funny when I asked my sister though. I rang her (which I never do as we normally text) and said I needed a favour. She was all "What now?" and really annoyed, and then I said I needed her to be a bridesmaid and she was over the moon. She's never been a bridesmaid before and she's so excited. She called our mam five minutes later and said "Have you heard my news? I'm going to be a bridesmaid!", nothing about her big sister getting married. Smiley laugh

I made personalised cards on Moonpig with collages of photos of us together on the front with "name, will you be my b*tch, oops, bridesmaid?" and a nice poem inside. I met up with them all individually and fave them the cards. They all loved them x

I've just brought some little rope bracelets that are on a card saying will you be my bridesmaid from Not on the highstreet, they should be coming this week so hopefully they will love them.

I sent them cards saying "You're the only person I trust to tell me when I've got Sh*t in my teeth.... will you be my bridesmaid"

Not girly or eloquent- but then again neither are we! They loved it.

I sent my sisters a facebook message haha Smiley laugh I'm not very sentimental about this kind of stuff so I just asked plainly. Although I also managed to misclick and accidentally invite a work colleague to be my bridesmaid!! Fortunately we both realised really quickly and laughed about it...

I rang my CB, and sent my other two a group Facebook message titled "bridesmaid request" I probably would have done it in a nicer way but, wanted two more BM's, didn't know who to ask and was in the pub at the time mulling it over, OH suggested that I pick the two I have. So, just asked before I forgot.

Not the way we do things. However all the ideas are really sweet and thoughtful.

I asked my girls before i even thought about doing it a different way.

I did the balloon/card thing too! The girls loved them. Got mine from here: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/whiteknot/product/you-re-more-than-a-guest-bridesmaid-card

I got a card made on Etsy for my MOH, which said 'I can't say I Do without you' on the front.
