At the risk of sounding ever so stupid

Bumble_Bee, 13 July, 2008 at 15:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Would one require a passport to fly from Newcastle to London ?

I have lost my passport and was hoping to travel to London via air for a wedding in a few weeks time.

Thanks

    No

I have flown numerous times between liverpool and southampton and also manchester and heathrow

All you need is some form of photo ID - plastic driving licence is one I normally use

If it is your only form of photo ID then yes you will need your passport, if you have a new driver's license with photo that should do.

Check the airline's website for other forms of accepted photo ID if you don't.

I have a new style Driving License, thankfully.

Its my own fault I should have got a new one months ago but I keep putting it off, can't afford to get a new one now just before the wedding.

I have just read this on the bmi site

Acceptable forms of ID on International flights

All passengers travelling on international services must present valid documentation for travel including a passport and valid visa where required.

UK domestic & UK-Republic of Ireland photographic identification

All passengers aged 16 years or over must present valid photographic identification for all UK domestic flights and for all flights between the UK and Republic of Ireland.

it says 'including a passport' ☹️

But the 'including a passport' bit only applies to international flights - you will be fine with your driving licence.

Maybe a phonecall to the airline would put your mind at rest?

But you are flying UK domestic, so you will be fine with your driving licence
