At what point do you become old?

Panjita, 26 August, 2011 at 09:44 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

I am 32 next week. Am I old because I listen to Radio 2 in the morning? I noticed recently that I now actually see weekends as a time to get over the week and not the other way around. Is this the slippery slope now?

Is it cringey that I still buy music like Example and Rizzle Kicks?

At what age do you think you start becoming OLD? Midlife crisis anyone?

You're only as old as you feel. I'm 30 soon and still feel 18!

I'm 32 soon, but mentally I feel like my clock stopped at 19...

I always get accused of being immature, but I don't give a crap...

Im 32 now and i dont feel it in the slightest. I still love burning the candle at both ends, but saying that i do like a nice relaxing weekend from time to time. Listen to your body not what people assume, if it wants to slow down let it, otherwise keep on trucking ?

I feel like I'm still 19 in my head sometimes but then think back to the kind of things I used to do when I was 19 which I would most definitely not do now.

    WTS ?

I'm 26, listen to Radio2 every morning and much prefer a night in, pj's on - than going out into town.

My oldest niece is 18, that makes me feel old. Although my oldest sis is 13 yrs older than me!! xx

I think once you hit 30... Joke! My cousins are 17 and 18 and use words I dont understand. That makes me feel old. Yeah, sick is used to describe good, but to me it means gross or vomit ... Hmmm.

I am 53. Other people clearly consider me old, society obviously does (see adverts for Saga, insurance for over 50s etc), discrimination abounds (job market) but I still feel the same as I did when I was 24.

My 88 year old mother doesn't feel old.

I genuinely don't know when "old" starts. I only know how other people view me.

I think "old" will always be, to me "older than me". When I was 15, I thought 28 was old. Now I'm 28, I don't even think 50 is old.

In terms of being "old and boring", I certainly do appreciate a quiet night in every now and again but I don't think that makes me old.

The one thing that makes me feel old, is when young pups in work, cousins etc say they're turning 23, 25 etc and say they're old. You are not old at 23!

I always used to think that once you were in your 70s you were really old. then my dad got into his 70's and was still acting like he was in his 40s/50s, so I changed my mind. He is now 78 and still doesn't seem old to me so I can see him staying 'young' into his 80s.

I call my OH the grumpy old man, because he doesn't have the same energy to go out all night like he used to, and when he does it takes him about a week to recover! he always talks about the parties and music like they were yesterday when, in fact, most of them happened in the late 90s/early 00s.

I think a lot depends on your attitude to life in general. When I was younger, the average lifespan was 72 so 60's was classed as old. Now because people are healthier and more active and medicines have improved our quality of life, the expected lifespan is increasing every year. I'm a curly 6 and a fat 0 in six months time and I certainly don't consider myself as old. Granted, I haven't got a clue who any of the groups, singers, celebrities are but I don't really give a jot to be honest as it doesn't matter. My Mum is still going strong and she's 94 next Wednesday. So I hope I've got lots of years in front of me yet. I do find that I've started to do some of the things my Mum used to though! Like tutting at stuff on the telly and commenting about young girls walking around half naked - like "Get some clothes on love, you'll catch your death!" I always say if you think old, you'll be old so in my head I'm still 21.

Hmm when you think a good night is one where you get to go to bed at 10pm.

When you go on a pub crawl and drink tea as you need to keep a clear head for work.

When you choose watching the X Factor over a Saturday night out.

I think I was born old and I am only 30!. H is 48 and he acts younger than me!

I'm 31 next month. I don't consider myself old. I'm unsure whether I'm young any more!

I got very excited about the 70% off cookware token collection thing Tesco are doing at the moment though, when the lady at the checkout gave me a few extra vouchers this week (meaning I can get a new pan sooner than I thought) I was so happy OH called me 'middle-aged'. I didn't think cookware-geekery made qualified me for 'oldness' but I have started to wonder. (❤️ my new pan though!!)

In answer to the OP. I think you know you are old when

The tunes you were listening to when you started going old, are classed as 'Old Skool'

When remixed songs come out, and you remember the original!

Ace! I might get that one next, I got the casserole dish first Smiley smile we could produce a research paper together on "oldness as determined by relative excitement about cookware" if someone would sponsor this, we could spend a year or two shopping. For science. *nods wisely*

I'm 28 and have only started feeling old since I've noticed timings. For example, it's been 7 years since I qualified, and yet I still feel like it was yesterday. I looked after a couple of work experience girls a few months ago and realised while they were jabbering about boys that it was over 10 years ago that I was their age. How did that happen?

Depends on how much i've had to drink! ?

I'm 25 but having kids has made me feel old! 10/10.30 is now my bedtime! There we're times when I used to work 7am-1am go straight to a club after work, crawl in at 5am then back to work for 9am! I could never do that now, it's making me yawn even thinking about it!

Mmm I am 38 and dont see myself as old, I do call H a boring old fart some times though when I want to do something exciting and daring he is like no! He is 42 in fews weeks. My 30th only feels like 5 minutes ago, but I still would not change what I have now.

I love my nights getting in to pj's bottle of wine, and a cuddle from H with the dogs at our feet. I listen to radio 2 but only in work OK to work to and easy listen. I do wow I remember when the original came out. I am now getting the odd grey hair argh, but it gets died so what. I dont think anyone looks there age any more so if someone says I look younger I agree with a smile. My mum is 60 in December and I never old at 50 and still dont think of her as old now.

But I do wonder if I would want to go to pubs every Friday night or Saturday night now the ones I used to drink in look so dead now when they used to be so busy with people qued out the door. I drive past now to get a takeaway and look and think come on this is 9 - 10 on a weekend night where is everyone???

In many ways glad I had my going out days when I did, drink was so much cheaper and the pubs were certainly busier. They even trying to reopen an old night club in Warrington (as hit man and her was filmed there) now which you think why no wants it now...

And a club called reflex which 80's music fantastic we grew up at the best time me thinks!

There was a girl a few tents down from me over the weekend celebrating her 21st. In between the terribly irritating screeching noise she kept emitting, she kept moaning "God I'm sooooooo old!" I wanted to nut her and I'm only 26.

I'm 33 and don't feel old. I still listen to Radio 1 although some of it gets on my nerves. Actually correct that, Fearne Cotton gets on my nerves. Before I was pregnant I still went clubbing and drinking too. Although I was starting to feel slightly old amongst all the 20 year olds but I love the music so why should I stop?

Obviously now we have bump my clubbing days are numbered (too tired and I'd worry about falling over in heels), but we chose to have a child before the risk factors of age started to potentially affect us, so it's all good.

Argh! That would have driven me mad too. I swear one of the only things that makes me feel old is people younger than me saying how 'old' they are. Same with people 4 dress sizes smaller than me saying they are fat.*

Or maybe these things are truly relative after all.

*I know different people have different body issues, but i'm still allowed to go 'raaargh' in my head!!
