Somewhat irrelevant comment coming up.....I just have to say how pleased I am that the Electoral Register is top of that list (register not roll ?). I am an elections administrator by trade so am over the moon that this hasn't been overlooked (most people don't know we exist!) ?

Thanks for this! This might be a stupid question but how does your name actually become changed? Does the marriage certificate automatically change you name? What if you want to keep your maiden name as part of you name (in the middle)? And (last question, I promise!) what name do you sign your marriage certificate with? New or maiden?

Has anyone got extra copies of their marriage certificate? I know that some things require the original to change them but other places seem to accept copies - anyone know how we go about getting copies?

I'd planned to photocopy them on the work photocopier! Don;t think they need an official 'copy' from the registrar. :-)

Getting married is all you need to do to change your name, you don't have to do anything other than let relevant people know (that are on the list in the op). For keeping your maiden name or having a different name try reading this :

You sign your marriage certificate with your maiden name- I had to ask this on the day! ?
