That's really rubbish - can I just check what kind of extras were they trying to add on? Just asking as this is our reception venue and this hasn't happened to me yet.. Just want to check there's not going to be any shock prices arrive any time soon. We had the prices go up beginning of the year but we were told that would happen so nothing could do there.
As of last night, I'm feeling a lot happier - after having a few issues with my flowers. They are sorted! Yay! I've ordered silk flowers for everything except the church, where we are having two pedestals in fresh flowers! ?
Some lovely flashes girls! I remember getting excited when my ticker said 2 years! Now it says 4 months and something - that's just crazy!
Everything is pretty much sorted for our abroad wedding. Just need to sort the men out with suits now and everything else is just minor. Mr K's decided he wants pale blue and the men in a light stone linen suit - you wouldn't believe how hard those are to find.
Still got a few bits to sort for our home reception. We were really hoping for a band who played at my cousin's wedding a few years ago. They are friends of her husband and he's been trying to get an answer out of them for months, but hasn't, so I think we're going to have to start looking elsewhere. Problem is that I live miles away from anywhere, so the choice is limited.
Well, for example - we had said from the start that our wedding cake would be a cheese tower. So we asked if we could bring our own crackers or if they could provide. And they said we couldn't bring our own because "you aren't allowed to supply your own food" (errrm what about a normal wedding cake?) and then tried to charge £4.95 a head for crackers. We complained, they said "OK, £4.50". Just for biscuits??? Errrm. No. They asked if we'd like the fire buckets lit, never even saying it would cost, then wanted to charge us for it. The cost isn't an issue - we can afford it - it's more the fact I don't feel we're getting value for money. Oh, and we were booking their "ceilidh band" yet when I asked for specific Scottish dances, they weren't sure they band would know them, and asked me to send music in advance. Yet with a ceilidh, it's not the music that matters - if the caller doesnt' know the dances there's no point. Oh, and another point - we wanted a hog roast but they were reluctant to put a whole hog roasting on display. Just lots of little things that added up to us not thinking we would get the day we wanted. We haven't managed to get hold of them yet, but have put deposit on the new venue and are happier.
ooo im off to brighton for my hen weekend too ? we're going on the 3rd august though!!
I told myself i was sending invites out the first week in march but its not happened yet!! Need to give myself a kick!!! Also struggling to pick hymms and readings!! arggghhhhh
Thanks MrsHtobe! Ouch, £4.50 for some cracker - I would be expecting some really nice ones! You've calmed my small panic, thank you! We're having the fire baskets lit, but other than that ours is working out a very different evening to what yours would have been. Glad to hear you've got a new venue that you're happier with! Will help your excitement building if you don't have any worries like those!
Cookie, you might want to get a wiggle on with your bridesmaid dresses. If you're getting them from a bridal shop you might be too late. When we asked when we needed to order them by they said last november!
We're struggling with asking someone to do a reading at the moment. D wants to ask his sister, but I think my two sisters might be a bit annoyed and feel quite left out if we do that. So we're trying to think of someone neutral but just can't decide who would be both ok with public speaking and isn't going to upset someone else!
Also no idea what is happening with my hen do. My MOH is sorting it out, though i've requested something small and quiet at home. I suspect it is themed on my favourite book.
There are lots of lovely flashes going on ladies! HLT - your venue looks amazing!
I am feeling pretty disorganised to be honest and am a bit worried about how much is left to do.
We've sorted the venue, catering, band, my dress, STDs, honeymoon and flights and accommodation for my family who are coming from abroad. And that's about it!
Still need to sort out flowers, bridesmaid dress, OH's suit, rings, music and readings for ceremony and all of the little things like favours etc. Aaarrgh!
We did go and see our venue for the 2nd time ever though yesterday and we both got so excited about how gorgeous it is. At one point we both looked at each other and started doing a little hand clap. What losers! At least seeing it again gave me a better idea about how to decorate it. Right, time to get a move on with my (very long!) to do list!
I am so jealous - I am having a mare over my BM dresses. I spotted one in the Debenhams sale too the exact colour I am looking for. I bought 2 of them BUT ...... i am unsure about the style of the dress. Its not what I had in mind. The colour has been very difficult to source. Now Im bored with the whole BM dress thing as its been dragging out too long now and I want to move onto sorting out something else. This will be the 2nd set of dresses I have bought. 1st ones the shade of colour was wrong.
I love how your shoes are prefect match to your dress - Beautiful style too. Well done and what a bargain too!!
Thats shocking.. read your lastest post!! I'm getting married in Rugby but now live in Leicestershire. I think youi've done right to move to Hatton. Looking forward to seeing your pictures already ?
We booked our band on Saturday so very pleased. OH seem to getting a bit stressed at how much there is to do so yay he's starting to pull this finger out lol!!
Yes, we had a phone convo with the leader of our band last night, and got things sorted out with them (again, had to get one at short notice but they are adding extra musicians so we have an authentic scottish feel to our ceilidh). Just need to think about how to decorate the hall, but I have time for that - it's not urgent yet

I neeeeed these shoes! Can I ask where you got them? The ones I keep finding are over budget!
Gempf, you can get shoes like that from Diane Hassel, elegant steps, or BHS. they vary in price though.

I'm going to have a look. I've seen the BHS ones but they're higher than I wanted! Thanks for the other names though! I also just spotted the other shoes on this thread and need them as well!
Gempf - what's your budget? These were £40 from Light In The Box, but I had to pay £20 import tax on top of that when they arrived which was a surprise! What size are you? These are slightly lower than I wanted (5cm) as i am only 5 ft(!) so I am thinking of selling them for something a bit higher, I will probably see what they look like with the dress first though... X

Ah, I looked at these on light in the box but wasn't brave enough! I really want to pay no more than about £45 because I've already spent £60 on a pair that I've decided are too high!
Maybe we could swap?! What shoes have you bought? I'd be willing to sell them if I decide not to go with them but I want to try them on with my dress first. I got the shoes before the dress and purposely decided to have the dress so it was just touching the floor incase I decided to swap the shoes. I absolutely love them but I would prefer something slightly higher, which I think I've found... How desperate are you? Are you prepared to wait a while? Oh, and where do you live?

Mine aren't vintage at all. If you google pure and precious scarlett, they are them but im not sure theyll be what you are looking for. The bottoms are scuffed from me trying to make a "grip" on them lol. I get married in October so I'm happy to hang on a while. When do you try the dress on?

I keep missing bits off lol. I'm in Swinton, South Yorkshire.
You live quite some distance from me (I'm in Bath) but I am getting married in August and will have the dress around June time so I will know by then if you're happy to hold off? Thanks for the offer but I am looking for something to compliment my slightly vintagey lace dress. X
