Nope. In my day (as in, weddings I went to as a child and in my 20s, including my first) cards and gifts were put on a table and if necessary managed by parents/bridesmaids. To me, a postbox suggests that cards/vouchers/money are expected.
I am having one but only because me and OH met at a post office so we thought we would incorporate it into the day somehow! Here's ours that we're hiring:
http://www.yourweddingpostbox.co.uk/Hire.htm think its 60quid for the day plus maybe a charge for getting it back to them, so not exactly cheap but we just loved the idea!
Our wedding venue coordinator pretty much insists we have a post box so that no cards etc go astray. I think most people at least bring cards and nowadays increasingly money/vouchers are in them so it makes sense for them to be stored properly and not slip off a table! Not found an ideal postbox yet....still looking!
I posted my invites over the weekend!!! It makes it so real! Plus 2 out of my 3 bridesmaids have tried on their dresses, other one just cant be bothered i think. I just got to get my flowergirls dresses, we also need the groomsmen ties etc and need to sort out the sweetie buffet!!
Ooh then just sort out the flowers and finish the table centrepieces that I am making! Along with a few other small things!!
5th Aug :-) So, we're talking a little over 4 months really and we told everyone in Jan.
So far I have venue, photographer and band (thank you google! Booked
in one night without seeing, meeting or hearing), my dress, my
bridesmaid dresses (thank you Coast and your fandabby sale) I have made
the favours, buttonholes and had a go at my bouquet. Don't plan on many
flowers so will do that the day before (yes, I know!) and the room
decorations should be quick enough to do.
Humanist is booked but not legal in England so we need to book a
secondary, legal one at the border on our way down (just to sign our
names, crazy)
Wow thats a lot done in a short space of time! well done.
I've been on the hunt for ties again this morning and think i might have found someone who can get hold of some for me. They're not an exact match for the colour of the bridesmaids but at this point i am willing to go for same 'shade' rather than exact match. I'm fed up of looking. I had some poor lady in a fabric shop searching high and low for fabric this morning and still didnt find any at which point i decided to just get the nearest i could find instead!
I'm also starting writing my invitations this week and i think we've decided who we are asking to do our reading as well. Its all so slow at the moment though.
Hello to you too! Your signature makes it seem very close indeed. Must work out how to do that! Weight loss one too....NEED to do that. I keep having nightmares that the dress won't tie up!
I have been on here over a year and never found a date twin, so hurrah! Sounds like you are having a more relaxed wedding day than mine has ended up being.
You just made me realise that it is only then about 3 months til the dress needs to be able to be tied up! I keep thinking I have ages and then eating another cake. Oops.
(If you click on mine or anyone else's tickers it should take you to a link where you can design your own and then save the code to your hitched profile.)
Not heard anything else about dress yet, I was told by hitchers I can expect to hear more from suppliers around the 3 month. My dress won't be in for fittings until July!
I was told around 12 weeks which made it end of march so should be due any day. I am like a mad woman checking the phone for messages everytime I have been out!! I thinks its only because its due. I am excited but also scared!!
Thank the LORD for this post! It's made me feel so much better! I thought that I was the only one to be disorganised! Only things sorted are venue, church, photographer and car. Not even got a dress yet......yes, you heard that correct hitchers!! ?
Venue, food (need to finalise menu but that's not urgent I don't think), drinks, priest, hair/make up, photographer, videographer, dress, shoes, BM dress, OH's suit, OH's ring, cake, cheese tower, band, honeymoon.
Still need to do:
Flowers (big stress at the mo cos I want informal country flowers in jugs and florists are trying to charge £50 per jug, so trying to find other florists at the mo), Invitations (also big stress - we sent save the dates for Sept then moved to Aug so invitations must go out asap and I haven't got them yet). OH's shoes. Hair stuff (will have flowers in hair for beach wedding but need sthg for reception). Sort out some way of having a big screen to do a link up to best man's speech since he can't be there. Ring - aaargh a saga in itself. Cutlery/crockery hire. Legal docs and visas for wedding abroad. Travel insurance. Dress fittings (want to lose weight but it's not happening)
Ooo August brides I am stressing!! Still have no invites and they were to be out by now. My friend is making them but shes quite secertive so I have only just recieved the designs and there not quite right.. I now need to ask her to change them and feel stressed as don't want to upset her as shes been working soooo hard! But then i was pestering her for weeks to see them as i didn't want her to go down the wrong line but she kept saying she wasn't ready to show me them yet.
I've got a meeting on Sat to sort out my bouquet and then afternoon suit shopping with OH.. then that will be another tick on the list yay!
My dress is due in May however thought my veil and head peice would be in by now!!
