Avon Calling, Found a way to Make extra Cash cross fingers...

FIONATS73, 5 November, 2008 at 15:26 Posted on Planning 0 9

I have been thinking hard how to help with the wedding fund as it very tight like most people's. Was going to get a pub job after xmas, which h2b said he would rather I didn't I have worked behind a no of bars when required to make a bit of cash when required. But when you are new at this time of year you get the crappy shifts xmas and new year. So after xmas I thought, so at by friends the other night discussing bits and bobs. Looking through the Avon book, and thought I could do this? My friend has done it a number of times and said what she had earned. Will be a great help, so she has given my name and number to the Avon lady to call me. I work full time Monday to Friday and we walk the dog each day, so I can not see any hardship putting avon books through people's door's. Best bit h2b can help!

So cross fingers will be accepted and earn some cash for the wedding fund, should hopefully help. Anything extra will be a bonus so happy at my idea!

I did it for 6 months earlier on it the year, you normally start off with good orders and then they get fewer and fewer. I stopped when it was costing me money to do it.

I did it at this time last year, and before christmas i made quite a bit out of it. Afetr christmas was a nightmare though, hardly had any orders. Its not as good as you think if people arent used to getting the catalogue, it takes a while to build up the trust of people.

I am an Avon rep. Only have a small round but this is my 4th time doing it.

It is not wonderful money for the work but I tend to spend all my commission back in the book and fill boxes ready for the following Christmas

It is also not as easy as dropping books in one night. You go back to get the books and people aren't in so you have to go back the next night, then you get "oh can I keep it a few more days as I haven't had a chance to look" so you end up going back another night. Then you get the same all over again with the delivery of their orders.

    It can be a pain.

One of the girls at work is an avon rep, and she's built up a regular clientele at work which works well for her - maybe try that as an option too if you work somewhere that people might be interested?

    Hi,

don't want to put you off but please don't go into it thinking you'll make loads of money and its just a case of putting books thro doors,

i've been an avon rep for 18 months and i do enjoy it but it's more the social side really i started doing it after i had a baby and felt very isolated stuck in the house all day. i make about £60 a month on average9some months are better than others) and it takes up about 10 hours a week, its not just a case of putting books thro doors you have to go back and collect them sometimes 3 or 4 times,

i have about 300 houses in my area i usually buy 100 books so then either only deliver to good customers or means i have to go collect the books and then re deliver them, you have to pay for the books (and the bags and the start up fee which is only about £20 so not too bad), you have to prep them filling in your details on the forms putting the forms in the books, spend ages on computer inputting the orders, when the order comes you have to bag it all up and then go and deliver it half the people wont be in or wont have the money and ask you to come back again another time. loads of people start up doing avon at this time of year. it might take a while to build up a good customer base,

it is good fun tho and i've met some lovely people, sometimes i bribe my son to help out but he usually wants paying for it lol i also spend alot of my commision on buying things from the book

Thanks Ladies, my friend has explained all this to me. I don't expect massive amounts of money from it but every bit helps as they say. I will treat it very much like my job, I actually work as a credit controller chasing money on a daily basis. Some days I get more than others and some days I get zero. With the current climate I am even losing customers. H2b will be helping me, and we drop the books of at night as we walk the dog round the block.

    Thanks again

I did it for a while, and found it was good in the run up to Christmas (so definitely a good time to start it). A lot of my orders came from friends or acquaintances to start with as well.

However, I was really too busy to do it justice, and didn't have the time to devote to it, so after Christmas, it ended up not being that great. I think if you've got the time and the energy and enthusiasm, it's quite good.

You might also want to think about doing parties, although you'll need to spend a bit to start off with to get the products in to show people. But your team leader (or whatever they're called, I forget) may have a pack that you could borrow to do parties, if you ask. Mine did, and I did quite a successful party in the run up to Christmas.

Have you thought about doing Body Shop at Home? I used to do parites towards the end of my student days and gave-up when I qualified and got a "proper" job.

There's nothing stopping you from dropping the brochures round like Avon and it's good commission. It's something a bit different coming through the door too, people are more likely to look. You can also do incentives for them to collect orders for you from their friends/work etc.

There's lots of money to be made this time of year, and they often have offers on the kits so setting yourself up isn't too costly.

I did Avon in the past and as the others have said it can't be a pit of a pain having to go back out to collect catalogues/drop orders etc and you don't make loads at all.

About 4 years ago I joined Virgin Vie and if you're prepared to give up 2 nights a week (this would be similar to all the tripping about for Avon) then you can earn quite a bit more. Average earnings are £50 per party after expenses but obviously at this time of year it's usually much more. Last Nov I made approx £1000.

Email me if you want some more details - ******.*********@********.***
