B2B's with a Teal colour scheme - suggestions please??

Sassporilla, 22 February, 2009 at 19:42 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi!

Normally I'm over on BT but my Sister has asked me to help her research anything 'Teal' - she's not getting married until next year and I'm CBM, she has nothing yet so is looking for good (and fairly reasonably priced) bridesmaid dresses, favours ideas, ribbon, cake decs etc.. etc... it is has teal involved she wants to have a look at it - are they any teal brides out there? can you recommend places that you have found that does things?

or were you a teal bride who is selling anything? wedding is next August.

TIA! ?

    Hi,

I've already done invites in Teal. It seems to be a popular colour this year. I'm sure you'll find dresses and ribbon no problem. I'm sure you will get loads of help with this.

I'm a teal B2B, and as many on WP can probably tell you, I have had one or two issues with sourcing teal things for my wedding, although since I started planning it has become more popular as a wedding colour so more suppliers are cottoning on.

The best advice I can give is not to get too hung up on a particular shade of teal, as that's what has caused me the most problems. Different suppliers' perceptions of what is "teal" can vary widely, from turquiose blue to jade green.

My BM's dress was actually a prom dress from Debut at Debenhams (which only has a bit of teal in it), but I believe a lot of the main bridesmaid dress designers now offer teal. Her facsinator and handbag have also come from Debut, but are actually slightly more jade than I would have liked (but I would have lost it trying to match perfectly).

Ribbon has been a huge issue. The only ribbon I could find that was anywhere near what I considered to be teal was "Anita's everyday ribbon", which is a 1cm grosgrain. I'm currently awaiting some organza ribbon from eBay which is allegedly teal, but so far I haven't found a satin ribbon that comes near. Everything is either too green or too blue, but then that's me being picky.

My local suit hire shop (Coes of Ipswich) has recently added a teal cravat and handkerchief to their range, but I don't know which other suit hire companies do (I know that Moss Bros certainly didn't when we were looking). I also managed to get a tie-pin from eBay for my H2B which includes a "teal" crystal, which I believe is Blue Zircon.

So far the only other thing teal that I have is the tealights for my table centrepieces. I got these from a company called Northern Lights who will match the tealight to a fabric swatch for you, but these were delivered to work on Friday and I forgot to bring them home so I don't know yet how close a match they are!

An idea that my florist had was to include some eucalyptus leaves in with my (ivory) flowers, as they have a bluey-grey quality to them which matches in with the teal.

I may have a number of items to sell once I get back off honeymoon, but I don't know if that will be too late in the planning stages for your sister? I do currently have six ordinary ties in teal that I bought as a back-up in case we couldn't get teal cravats, so if she's intesterested in those she can take those off my hands now!

Can't think of anything else at the mo, but don't be afriad to ask.

Excellent post Kelly. I would echo what kelly says & try not to match the Teal exactly, every supplier has a different idea of what Teal is. Try to get as many swatches of the dress fabric to match colours against. It is better to mix shades rather than get everything in the same shade. Mint Green & Ice blue look fab with Teal as sometimes the colour can look Green and ohers it looks Blue.

    HI ya

I did a teal and porcini wedding last year and I agree it's super difficult to find everything in the exact shade so as Kelly said don't get too fussy. However we decided to use butterflies as I found just the right colour and then added teal ribbon around all of the napkins. I bought this ribbon

    http://www.craftyribbons.com/details.aspx?p=301&c=

The butterflies were from a shop in cheltenham, but I'm sure you can source them elsewhere.

For the jewellery and favours I actually had them made by a bespoke jewellery designer who could source and match the beads. I had jewelled keyrings with butterflies made which matched the bridesmaid's jewellery and they keyrings were in ivory organza bags.

I also used teal in the stationery, invites, table plans, menu cards too and used teal ribbon to put around the edge of the boards that we used for the cupcake stand.

One major thing that I did was use teal lighting in the room. I had par cans throwing teal light onto the walls. This is a great way to introduce the colour into the room and you can usually mix the colours so that it's the exact colour. Speak to the disco company to find out if they can supply these for free or a small charge.

There are lots of other ways you can introduce the colour. In the centrepieces, you can use teal coloured water or beads or even use teal coloured flora lights which will light the vase up teal, it's very striking. If using chair covers, you can have teal sashes and also introduce it buy having teal organza slip cloths or runners on the tables.

If you want to use it as an accent then just think about using it for the smaller areas such as favours and stationery.

A great way to get ideas is to go to images on google and type in teal wedding. It will bring up loads of different ideas for you.

    HTH

A B2B I am doing chocolate and candle favours for is having teal and found some gorgeous stunning bridesmaid dresses in BHS. They were so reasonable and exactly the shade she wanted. She was running around the shops like a lunatic with the cravat she had borrowed from Moss Bros and found the exact shade in BHS. I can help with the favours nearer the time if she wants to look at my website.

As for invites, ribbons etc, one of the HIB should be able to help. Could also tie in some other colours - they are having pink as well which sounds a bit mismatched but look stunning together. Chocolate also looks gorgeous with teal, as does cream/ivoy.

Do a good old google search and see what you come up with - can be a real surprise sometimes and you may find exactly the thing you are looking for,

Good luck planning (for your sis!!)

    Hi

Invitations shouldn't be a problem at all - I've had an increase in teal orders and enquiries this year too, as it grows in popularity. Even if you don't find anything straight away on a google search, most good designers will be able to print match to swatches of fabric to get the correct shade for your sister. So look for a design first rather than the colour and ask if it can be adapted.

    Hi Ladies!

Sorry for my late reply - Thank you all so much for all your great replies, lots of great information - I will pass everything to my sister so she can look at it.

I more than likely will be back with more queries.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I had teal for my wedding in October last year.

We had teal for the bridesmaid dresses (Coast)

They had fascinator/clips in their hair the same colour (Monsoon). Ribbon round the stems of their bouquets with teal crystals poked in the roses (Hobbycraft).

I also had the same teal ribbon around each teir on the cake. It was used in the stationery (Pretty Wild). Table diamonds were blue zircon.

This picture is deceiving, the dresses were a lot more blue IRL. As Kelly has said the interpretation of teal is extremely different!!

ETA: I also had a few indicolite swarovski crystals in my tiara!

    Hi,

I'm having a teal colour scheme- I've found satin (double-sided) ribbon on ribbon oasis: http://www.ribbonoasis.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2944 and also found some that came all the way from America, but only cost around £15 for 50yards. That one was one-sided but as I used them on the invitations that didn't matter: http://www.pouchmart.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=097AF2A9-E340-8D1D-89B4C610EC5EA500

I also made my own tiara and used swarovski crystals which were teal coloured from jem junction: http://www.jemjunction.co.uk/50pcs-5301-4mm-indicolite-swarovski-bicone-beads-p-1238.html.

I'm also hoping to buy teal either satin or silk for the bridesmaid's dresses but haven't found one I'm 100% happy with yet...

    Have fun searching! ?

Just to add that I have now checked my tealights and they are a as-near-as-perfect match to the sample I sent them, so for anybody looking for tealights in an awkward colour I would definitely recommend Northern Lights.

    Hi Sassporilla,

Don't panic - you still have time! There are 1.9 million Teal wedding images on Google Images - which should give you some inspiration for favours, candles, table settings etc.

Google has a colour palette tool to help you find Teal related wedding items - even if the image isn't labelled as 'teal'.

We did a posting about using Google to find wedding colour themes on our blog - here is an image to help you:

Please let me know if this helps!
