Baby dress code

(Claire), 23 August, 2013 at 12:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 28

Ok so I've just been on FB and in my news feed was greeted with the most adorable baby boy of no more than 2 months old - the only problem was he was smothered in an Adidas jogging suit, with the whitest Adidas trainers you've ever seen and then to add insult the poor thing had to sport the adidas cap.

This can't be the norm surely?

    Ooh no, that sounds horrid!

I've already told my mum no jeans before baby is on the move!! I wouldn't even consider caps and track suits!

It's just not right in my cabbage!

What's wrong with the good old fashioned rompers! I love those!

I don't like seeing babies dressed in 'proper clothes'! Nice baby clothes all the way! My friend brought her baby home from the hospital in jeans - the poor wee thing and her fragile baby skin ☹️

Sleepsuits and rompers all the way. Didn't dress either of mine in proper clothes until they started crawling!

C is 9, and has never owned a tracksuit, never mind at 2 months old. C was naked until around 2 months anyway. His "outfit" consisted of tubes and wires...

My boys did wear jeans before they started moving, but they were the cotton lined ones, with fabric waistbands. Normal "stiff" jeans were a no no (mainly as J was a tubster, and he needed the stretchy ones, haha)

Here, once J started sleeping through, babygrows became nightwear only.

I hate baby track suits and trainers. If I had my way O would still be in baby grows but you get so many clothes as presents and it seems a waste. I did put him in little outfits but only things that seemed comfortable, never anything chavtastic. He has got some Adidas trainers that have never come out of the box. Keep meaning to eBay them but I don't want to inflict them on some other poor child.

Definitely wouldn't put S in a track suit but to me baby Gris are for bed. She wears comfy little dresses or leggings and tops, especially as she's had so many as gifts that would go to waste.

I love little knitted cardies and jumpers on babies. Probably because Mum makes them and that's what I grew up with.

Thing is, you're not supposed to put shoes on them until they can walk. She's potentially damaging his feet, silly cow.

    This.

Or were they crib shoes??? Not keen on them either though. J had a couple of pairs, but I preferred him to "feel" his feet.

And pierced ears. Shouldn't be allowed to mutilate your kids until they are 12 and can consent. (I had mine done for my 5th birthday...)

I see this as child cruelty. Causing your child unnecessary pain??? Why, why would anyone do that? Oh, and you get the people who say "oh, the pain doesn't last long, and they won't remember it". Erm... missing the point there.

I was 18 months old when I had mine done.

Ooooh ear piercing, always causes a bit of a debate. I think it's vile and would question how any mother can willingly do that to a baby.

Babies should be comfortable with room to stretch and grow, not trussed up like a mini me. H is mainly on romper a or sleep suits, he has some shorts and t shirts but I only put them on occasionally as I don't like things roun his waist too much.

    Ear piercing babies...Vile!

It is however ok to dress them up as superhero dogs and bees!

Yes! A was given a few tshirts as presents which he wore but it's only now that he sits confidently that I put him in tshirts regularly. My pet hate is hoodies for tiny babies... The hood just gets squished under their neck and it looks so uncomfortable. Girls get lovely cardis but boys have stupid nonpractical hoodies. My mum and I went on missions finding him nice boy cardis.

I really can't stand tracksuits anyway unless it's people using them for sporting use, hate the everyday fashion of people wearing them & hate to see babies/ young kids in them.
Got to be the most horrible clothes ever. I always had my son in typical baby outfits but also thank places like h&m and next for him having really cool band tshirts on too at a young age. And I remember my mum bought him a Dave Grohl tshirt when he was about 1 year old, you can get trousers that just look like jeans but theyre soft with a soft waist band and we loved those sort of outfits on him. I suppose it's all down to taste and what everyone prefers for their own but tracksuits just aren't my thing, and I hate seeing little girls with their ears pierced, it really disgusts me...as well as really young girls in make up which i'm seeing more of all the time. And I won' even mention the padded bras for like 5 year olds Smiley angry

I like babies to look like babies too. A friend had a picture of her one week old baby in a proper little girls outfit that would look fine on like a four year old. It just looked wrong.

Astor pierced ears - they should be old enough to look after and clean the piercings themselves.
