Back again but it's all over

thirteentreasures, 30 October, 2009 at 10:36 Posted on Planning 0 7

When I was last on here it was not long to go. Then I spained my ankle really badly and ended up off work for a few weeks and my computer was broken so I couldn't hitch. . It was so frustrating, just when hitching could have really helped, I couldn't do it. I had to do all the last minute stuff from my sofa and only had internet access on my phone which doesn't let me post on Hitched. Meantime the big day happened and now it's all over. I couldn't wear the beautiful high heeled silver shoes I'd planned, but after buying some flats I found that a pair of low heeled slingbacks I already owned were ok, so I just sprayed them silver! I still had to use a crutch for some of the day though. Apart from that it was a very lovely, romantic and special day. It just went way too fast!

Anyway thanks for listening to my rants and wobbles earlier on. ?

    Hey

Sounds like you had a great day in the end, when was your wedding day?

How is your ankle now? I sprained my ankle really badly a year ago after falling down some stairs and it took about 6 months for it to properly heal.

Do you have any pics you want to share? As you know we all love a good flash!

Aw sorry to hear things were so bad in the run up to your big day.

Do you have any pics that we can see - you know how we're all about the pics!?!?!?

Congratulations by the way - is your ankle much better now?

It was October 10th but it wasn't actually a wedding!! As I've explained on here before we weren't getting married for various personal reasons but wanted to have a special day. So we celebrated 15 years of being together and our joint 40th birthdays (yes ladies, I'm old). I didn't wear a wedding dress, but I did wear a special, long dress which was teal organza and I wore a small tiara which I made along with my other jewellery. I'm a jewellery designer and originally joined Hitched to advertise on here etc., so when I was planning our day I asked Hitchers if they minded if I joined in as it was pretty much like planning a wedding. I had the same dress wobbles, hair trial, centrepiece choosing etc. We had a boat trip on the Regents Canal in London (v.pretty, starts in Little Venice, goes through Regents Park, the zoo etc) with a jazz band on the boat. Then the boat trip finished at the London Canal Museum where we had the evening party. I made the centrepieces which were vases with peacock feathers and twig lights on a mirror plate with tea light candles. We did some photo boards with silly photos of us growing up and through our years together and invited people to put captions with them, and did a silly quiz with questions about us. As people arrived at the musuem we gave them name badges but the names were of other people, so then they had to find the owner of their badge. It worked really well and got people mingling. My partner made a speech and thanked me for 15 amazing years which felt really incredible as he is really not someone to express his feelings easily. I think it was the most romantic day of my life.

Don't have pics yet, will get onto it. We didn't have an official photographer, just photos on the digital camera but as the computer has died we havne't been able to download them yet.

Also forgot to say that our dog came on the boat trip too, and she wore a ribbon round her neck to match my dress!!

Sorry, didn't realise it wasn't a wedding that you were having.

I think your day sounded so perfect - great that the dog made it along too - was it ok on the boat???

Sorry I didn't realise it wasn't a wedding, I'm relatively new on the boards so wouldn't of seen your previous posts during the planning process.

Sounds like it was fabulous day, the name badges sound like a good idea, I may well pinch that as although my partner and I have been together 9 years (11 years by the wedding) our families don't know each other at all really.

Hope you get your pics back soon, would love to see some, especially of your pooch!

Congratulations on the celebration of your 15 year anniversary.

Thanks, our doggie was fine on the boat, she's been on one on the Thames before. She thoroughly enjoyed all the fuss and being fed crisps, then we arranged for someone to collect her after the boat trip so we didn't have to worry about her at the party; the venue didn't allow dogs anyway. She's smallish, a mixed breed terrier, and regularly goes on the bus, tube and train with us. Recently she spend 5 and a half hours on the train to Cornwall with us and was very good. In fact I sprained my ankle in Cornwall, tripped over an olde worlde step in an olde worlde pub, but I was sober I promise, had been on the mineral water!

Thanks. Feel free to pinch the name badges idea, we bought blank ones in Ryman.

I will post some photos when we get them sorted. I tried to get quite a few photos of me in my dress as I hired it (after searching forever for something) so I sadly had to give it back☹️. I asked the lady if she'd sell it to me but she said no. I get to keep my jewellery though of course. I wasn't going to wear a tiara as I wasn't actually a bride, I thought people would think I was being silly. But I've been making them for years for others, and suddenly realised this was probably my only opportunity to wear one myself so I thought sod it! I also wore my mother's 1970s velvet evening cloak when we were outside, and used her silver evening bag from the 1960s.

I think our guests were confused as it wasn't a wedding as they turned up in a whole variety of outfits from jeans to full dinner suit!
