backdrop question

23 December, 2014 at 09:48 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi,

Im thinking I would like some sort of pretty backdrop for behind the top table. Have looked at the twinkle lights in material option, but not sure I can stretch to that budget, at the moment anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas how to pretty up a plain hotel wall without breaking the bank? Nothing too over the top but pretty enough to make a (small) statement and not take away from us sitting there.

Our main colour is dark navy blue, with touches of red and white flowers and little bits of sparkle here and there. Our top table will have a long low red flower arrangement.

Any ideas? xx

You can get 90 x 90in curtains quite cheap, eg £20 and hang them. I was admiring some nice ones in Poundstretcher last week! I want them for my photobooth. Your photographer may have a pole system that is used for photography backdrops, this could be used if the venue won't allow you to pin anything to the wall. My backdrop support is 3m long, so it depends how long you need the backdrop to be.

    I made this

The navy & white background is actually three separate sheets and in the end I split them up - you can see them in these pics:

I used this tutorial to make the paper rosettes (largely out of wallpaper samples I scrounged!) and I got really lucky finding the sheets to stick them on in a shop window display!

If only your colours were navy & pink not red, I could have offered you these

Ribbon bunting perhaps? Easily customised to suit your style or theme.

Paper garlands- doesn't have to be stars of course, anything you like Smiley smile

    Or a few photos maybe?

Im not sure if the same applies to a private person and it may also depend on your venue but I was speaking to a supplier of starlight and non light backdrops/ swagging and they say that have to be fire proofed which is expensive and also once washed they have to have the treatment re applied which perhaps gos some way to explain the costs. It may be worth asking the venue if they are first happy with whatever you plan on using with regards to fire safety.

Janine, I have one of those 1000 light LED curtains that I lend to clients. They are fairly heavy and still need a support system as there is usually nothing on the wall that they can be attached to.

I have a power pack for it and sometimes it's used for night shots in hotel gardens! We hang it on trees or arches!

If you are having a photographer then I would be careful what you have behind the top table, if its too fussy, lots of flowers or patterns then it could wash out the people on the top table, same goes for a led curtain, just some thing to think about.
