Bad service from company on wedding day, advice needed...

a_white_izzy, 28 September, 2011 at 12:46 Posted on Planning 0

I got married nearly a month ago and used a company to do my chair covers and candy station (I wont name and shame on here as I am yet to receive my deposit back) and myself and my H were terribly disappointed with the service. Many of the chair cover bows had slipped down before the starters had been served which meant I had to get my bridesmaid to go round and pull them all down so that they looked the same.

Also I conversed through email with the company about the candy station, asking how much it would cost to cater for 50 people and was advised that either £1 or £1.50 per head would be enough and I asked if the hire of glass wear, scoops etc was included (we provided our own bags) and was told it did. So we chose our10 types of sweets and paid £75. On the morning of the wedding my H went to the venue and saw the candy station. He was disappointed with what had been done and spoke to the lady doing it who asked him 'what were you expecting' he then told her that on their website there were pictures like this:

Bare in mind, we provided the bags and the sign. I was terribly disappointed that we didn't get any of the tall glass wear but were given what essentially is cooking and fruit bowls and that people had to use their hands to get the sweets.

I emailed the company regarding all of this and sent her the picture to which she agreed that it was not up to standard. She also stated that as she did not do the wedding she could not explain why this had all happened and would be speaking to the staff who did the wedding to find out what had happened and why they had not changed things if they knew there was a problem. We also paid a £50 refundable deposit which we were told we would get back within 2 weeks and I have asked about this but have received nothing.

I do not know where to go from here because I have barely got an apology (I was made to feel guilty for complaining rather than that she actually felt I had been wronged) and I would like my money back but do not know what I can do if she does not pay me back.

Basically, they did not provide what they were contracted to do properly. The images on their website should be a fair and proper representation of what you actually get for your money so, in view of the above, I would say they have contravened trade descriptions so you have a good case to take up with Trading Standards. Give your local Trading Standards office a ring and they will advise the correct course of action for a refund.
